The Platinum Card® from American Express

Almost one year ago Delta announced international wifi was on the way. Now with prices upward of $24.95 for use it is not as cheap as domestic GoGo, but to be connected everywhere has great value.

Last month the links went live for the 10 free one time GoGo use passes from the non-Delta AMEX Business Platinum card <–LINK,  I gave some warnings about perhaps setting up a separate account for them especially if you want to have the flexibility to off and on have a monthly GoGo service (there can be issues if you have the AMEX passes loaded then you try to re-up your monthly pass).

But now there is even bigger news regarding these AMEX  Business Platinum /GoGo one time passes. I have reached out to my GoGo rep and can CONFIRM:

THEY ARE VALID ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS!

Talk about amazing value if you travel internationally. If you use them for this, another ~$250 per year in value from this card. If you combine that value with the $200 per year in travel credits the cost / fee for the card is basically a wash! Don’t forget you also get Skyclub access, Priority Pass for other lounges like The CLUB at ATL, Centurion Club access, Global Entry fee rebated when paid with the card, BONGO access free, SPG Gold status and on and on!

People always ask me why I keep paying such a high fee for both this card and my Delta Reserve card each year? The answer is simple – the value I get from cards like the AMEX Business Platinum card <–LINK far exceed the cost I am paying for membership! . – René

  1. Maybe delta should start charging for being offline. I’d pay $25 for 10 hours of peace and quiet.

  2. I thought GoGo didn’t work once you were outside US waters. I tried using GoGo on a flight to Aruba and it shut off automatically once we traveled a few miles past Florida.

  3. @Mitch – Check the links. That is ground based GoGo. The INT birds have satellite based service for over water use.

  4. Solid news thanks! And thanks for the reminder to actually go thru the process and create a new account for using these as a monthly pass user. Worked like a charm but needed to use secondary email address. Quick and easy.

  5. Rene, Do we have any word on the speed of the satellite service? Is it slower than ground based?

  6. @JohnHace – up to 10x faster than GoGo ground. Then again, GoGo ground is nothing to get thrilled over so we shall see 🙂

  7. I, too, paid for Amex Plat every year ’cause it felt good.

Then a few years ago — as you point out — a strange thing happenedI I have actually gotten tangible $$ back that more than covered the cost of the card. Thanx Amex!

PS — I like thinking about you “reaching out to my Go-Go rep.”
