No – The Delta SkyMiles “Flexible Days” & “5 Week” search is not gone – it is just “Enhanced”!

Screen shots from Delta.com

Delta IT is an unending source of frustration for me both as a blogger and a frequent flyer. Things like randomly blocked seat maps are beyond maddening and the fact that the bug has even spread to Delta AGENTS screens is even worse. But there are many other bugs most of us just understand are in place and we develop a routine to work around them without thinking twice.

Yes, there is something missing here!

Today’s post is to address that issue as I need to have a post in place to simply email readers when they tell me and send me screen shots that the flexible days and 5 week search function is now gone on Delta.dumb (well it sure looks gone to me René so…)!

Oh, there you are choices!

I agree. Delta apparently has intentionally chosen to “enhance” away the SkyMiles flexible days choice as well as the 5 week search choice on the first landing page you come to. But here is the workaround to this latest idiotic award ticket search bug (there are endless others btw). When looking for a Delta SkyMiles award ticket you need to first search for a “Money” ticket (logical right?).

No, I don’t want to spend “$USD”

As you can see I have chosen to show the price in $USD and it has in fact loaded in the 5 week chart for a flight from my home town airport SBN or South Bend to ATL or Atlanta. Also notice in the top right the button that says Miles.

Hello 5 week seach with SkyMiles

If I now click “Miles” while on the “Flexible Days” choice it does in fact show me the price in SkyMiles for the award ticket for my selected dates (round trip in this case).

..and Flexible Days is found!

I can also click on the “Flexible Days” button and that now works in SkyMiles – that is, once I have done the initial search for a “Money” ticket from the first screen on Delta.com.

So why is Delta doing this and why have they removed the search from the first booking page? I simply have no idea. I have all but given up talking to Delta Corp people about SkyMiles issues. They always just send me worthless non-info e-mails back or tell me the page works as designed or they are not broken and so on.

At least now we all know how to find the missing search buttons on Delta.com. As to all the other bugs that can result in your paying 2x or 3x or even as much as 4x the price for a SkyMiles award? You know the simple fix for those bugs right? If not, just click HERE for the simple solution! 🙂 – René

PS – Even with the hurricane in full swing, Delta did a “Schedule Change Saturday” this weekend so check you flights (and seats) today please!

  1. Perhaps this “bug” has something to do with the fact that delta wants to charge award miles based on the cost of a ticket.

  2. @John – #ProTip – Delta has already changed the award miles to be based on the cost of the ticket unless you know the workarounds! 😉

  3. Another bug I recently discovered on DAL’s site was the mileage amounts on their 5 week calendar was incorrect. Last week I booked a Delta One award from MNL to ATL for 80K skymiles. When I was scanning thru the 5 week overview, the 80K award did not appear available. I believe the lowest award amount I could find was 130K using the 5 week view. I might be wrong about 130K exactly, but I’m certain the lowest amount was over 100K. In any case, the point is, by luck, I happened to find this lower award available by clicking the date I wanted to travel. I was delighted to find the amount was 80K, but before I found the 80K award, I almost gave up on it and started looking at other options. I began spot checking other days on this route to see if they were all wrong, and most seemed to be accurate, but I did discover a few other dates where the award price was 80K Skymiles, but the 5 week view showed it to be more.
