I have to admit it was REALLY hard this past week to stick to my new weekend only blogging change when Delta dumped all the medallion upgrade change news on us this past Monday. But at the same time I am happy I did as I had the time to really digest the news rather than just react as all the other blogs did. Anyway, that is also the topic of today’s SWAG Saturday drawing.

First the stuff one reader is going to have a shot at winning. Included is a very rare and unique Tumi A350 1st Flyers Club wallet, a Premium Select Tumi kit, Delta One slippers, a hard to find Delta hologram 747 trading card (#33) and lastly a $5 Amazon gift card just cuz!

Now the rules that are a little different from the past few weeks of drawings. You may only comment once i.e. once per IP address. You must have a US mailing address to receive the SWAG. I would like you to comment something about what you think about the change to the weekend only format about the blog but since random.org will be picking the winner really anything you comment qualifies. I will close the post to comments at about 10PM ET tonight Saturday the 25th so you have until then to give your one comment.

There you are kids, have fun and I hope you win! – René

Update: We have our winner for this week. Be sure to check back next week for yet another giveaway!

  1. I really appreciate getting all the updated Delta news. These regular emails have really helped me out in the past.

  2. I like the change… I come to you for in depth Delta knowledge and commentary which I appreciate. You shouldn’t have to be a breaking news source. In other words you shouldn’t have to be like a fireman and always on call!

  3. I honestly don’t like the new posting format. I prefer the older way as it seems we get more news and quicker. But, I totally understand the changes. Thanks for all you do!

  4. I’m not sure we will all be able to wait for your expert opinions on Delta changes for a few days but I also understand you have a life too.

  5. Thanks for the opportunity, Rene. I am very new to this blog – though been a PM Delta flyer for many years and should be DM this year for the first time ever. I’m still trying to learn, so appreciate all your blogs. I would like to learn more about ideas to make the $15K spend for Diamond – I have the Reserve card, but no way am I spending $250K to make Diamond again. Thanks for your help!

  6. Hey Rene- hope you had a good Thanksgiving! I love the new format because it really gives you time to digest and go in depth. Yeah, I definitely loved reading your stuff everyday, but now you have time for some longer thought provoking posts and I am super pumped for that! As always…. love your work!

  7. Actually, I’m good either way – I think we should keep trying the new format before changing back.

  8. @Rene – My advice is don’t be fenced in! I can only imagine you chomping at the bit when @Delta and other news breaks; how can you NOT post? Otherwise other bloggers will scoop you and expect a HT just because you wait to post on the weekend and you knew the same time they did. And the wallet looks pretty cool :).

  9. I’m not a big Delta flyer but I like that you call DL out on their BS and review them objectively. When I need DL info you are my first source. Also I really want that wallet.

  10. I enjoy reading your posts. I know how difficult running a blog can be. If weekend only works best for you then good.

  11. I hadn’t really noticed that there was a difference between weekday and weekend posts.

  12. I like the weekend change. Rather than reacting, you have time to digest and make your weekend posts have rich, well thought out content covering the week. Thanks!

  13. I like the new format as it avoids the “me too” outcome of all the other bloggers posting about the same thing at the same time and saying the same exact thing!

  14. I think that both blogging formats have their advantages. Frequently posting throughout the week allows for quicker news and updates, however posting less frequently and on the weekend, gives more in depth analysis of various topics. I personally like the weekend posts.

  15. I am a hub captive and a big fan of the blog. That said, I really do not like the weekend format because I usually read commuting to and from work. Still, look forward to future posts.

  16. I look forward to your weekend blog. Content quality matters most to me so I am more inclined to read through a well thought out longer blog once a week versus the short snippets that some bloggers do day after day after day.

  17. Rene-
I think this week was a good example of weekend only posts being ok. Of course big news, but most of the changes some time out. Prefer a thoughtful response.
I do miss the weekly news links.
And thank you for another swag Saturday!

  18. Rene
like weekend only since I normally flag all your emails and read when I have the time so once a week is perfect for me.

    Thanks for all you do!

    Rand

  19. I hate the weekend only posts. I look forward to your posts and I have learned so much from them!

  20. ok, so I’ll miss seeing your blog everyday but will definitely be reading on the weekend. Thanks for the chance at great gifts

  21. I do miss seeing something every day. Last week I checked every day during the week forgetting that I wasn’t going to see anything new. I just know the information I get here is excellent.

  22. If the content is worth it, weekend posting is great, but please share as much as you can. I’ve learned a lot from you!

  23. Im going to miss logging onto the blog everyday to hear your valuable input on delta events but I also understand it can be taxing on you so it is nice that you are able to relax more! Thanks for many years of great blogs Rene!

  24. I would prefer seeing updates on more than just weekends, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

  25. I appreciate your commentary. It is a loss for us, readers, but I am glad that you get your weekdays back. 🙂

  26. Thanks for the summary of the upgrade changes. It will be really nice for domestic Delta One. Jealous of the recent NCL cruise!

  27. I like updates during the week as they happen. Weekends are too busy for me to read all my emails and blogs!

  28. Travel news adheres to no schedule,
Thus more frequent posts are quite cool.
    While not affecting Rene’s fandom,
    a name chosen at random
will be limited to a once weekly rule.

  29. I appreciate getting all the updated Delta news. These regular emails have really helped me out in the past.

  30. I prefer the weekday updates as I try to cut back on computing over the weekend. Happy Thanksgiving – and thanks.

  31. Count me in. Finally Delta got the message and is upgrading on the transcontinental flights. I’ll take a small bit of credit for that. I fly NYC – LAX about 6 times a year. I’ve complained to Delta about the lack of upgrades EVERY time. I started complaining after seeing off duty crew (and their guests) in Delta One. I’m all for gving employees and their guests perks but not at the expense of paying customers.

  33. I appreciate the value in letting things digest, as you say, but after a few weeks of this, consider the weekend only to be a guideline, instead of an absolute. Still enjoy reading the blog. Thanks!

  34. As one of my favorite blogs about the airline industry, I like the old way better because I prefer to receive the news as it comes out.

  35. Well, did like the old way better — so many rumors last week about Delta (some even true!) it was hard to know where to turn when good ol’ René not right there! That said, I appreciate the content whenever if comes and will take whatever works best for you, of course.

  36. If you’re going to blog less frequently, I’d prefer posts be on weekdays rather than weekends. I’m not online as much on the weekends.

  37. Thanks, Rene. I miss clicking into Rene’s Points once or twice every day to see what’s going on in the world of Delta…

    But that’s just me…

  38. It sounds like quality over quantity now, but don’t forget, rules are made to be broken when something of note happens during the week.

  39. Schedule change Saturday hit me hard this time. All 8 trips are affected for me. Going to have to spend hours evaluating options before calling in. Don’t mind the change in your blog.

  40. It’s kind of disorienting not seeing posts from you every day. Feel like I’m missing out on something.

  41. I’m not a huge fan of the removal of D1 from 757 transatlantic routes. It really downgrades the benefit of flying Delta direct from those cities. Thanks for the giveaway!

  42. At least on the changes they made you still can game the system by SDC on economy and still get upgraded on D1!

  43. I enjoy as much time you can dedicate. I have learned so much from you in the past 6 months. Thanks
