So now I am 1/2 way done with my mileage runs and my goal of rolling over 40,000 MQM’s next year. So far so good and it is nice to see GOLD Medallion status now when I log into Delta.com. I cannot wait for my AMEX Reserve statement to close as that is the time, once you have met the $30,000 & $60,000 spend levels, to be able to use this page at Delta.com to dump in my extra 15,000 MQM’s. I should be just about at 70k then and will rack up another 12k+ next month with my next run!
So what tips have I picked up living Delta 24/7? One is that I so wish Delta would change it so when we log in we can see what seats are open in 1st class rather than just coach when we are booked in coach. There is, however, a very kool way around this that does not require the steps of “fake” booking a 1st class ticket to see the seat map. Do you like SODA? I do. Look at THIS tool that the awesome CWSI.net has. If you are logged in to your Delta.com account and type in the flight number and date you will be able to see the whole jet! How sweet is that? I love this site to estimate how many MQM’s & RDM’s I will net on any trip and now I have one more reason to visit it often.
I also have an update on my post from yesterday about a bump rebooked in “Y” class. We all know delta.dumb is about the most broken “IT” system of any airline. We have been waiting for YEARS for them to fix a few simple things, like when it says an award seat is there, it is there when you click NEXT. That is too much work for them. But, apparently, they DO have the time to fix my rebook from “Y” back to the original fare class. Now sure it may be because I blogged about it that Delta targeted little old me, or it may just be that the revenue side is more concerned about the bottom line that anything else. Who knows, I do know the usually outstanding @DeltaAssist offered me a lame apology and $25 for the change back after I gave up my seat. There are days it is very hard to love my airline and this is one of them. I think honesty is lacking and customer service is continuing to spiral down down down. Bad form @Assist, bad form!
Another tip is maybe silly but for men it helps. Most hotels, even suites, do not have a razor and shaving cream for us. But, any Skyclub with a shower will have a kit for you if you ask so be sure to grab one before you leave.
Another idea is water. Many Skyclubs have water for you. Sure you are to consume it at the club, but I can tell you about 1000 FlyerTalk posts where an agent has a “care” package for a regular flyer. I see grabbing a water for your next CRJ flight as a benefit of the club!
Other bits. There are many things I always have when I travel that you MUST have. Here they are in photo form:
What you see is a set of noise canceling headphones (a must) and a power brick (many types out there) that will recharge my phone 3-4 times or my tablet twice. Also a great surge strip that costs just about $10 that has 3 outlets and 2 USB so I don’t need a separate USB plug and when an outlet is full I can share. Lastly, when travelling internationally, an adapter to plug in anyplace.
So there you are. I am a bit done after this latest run. I am very upset at Delta over the bait-n-switch after my latest bump and have even filed a complaint with the DOT! Once they reissued my ticket in “Y” I do not see how they can back out on it but they DID! I 100% stand behind my post about demanding cash if bumped. If you are EVER forcibly bumped off a DELTA flight, make them pay you with a check or demand to be back on the plane. The perks of giving up your seat and helping the airline are just no longer worth it I hate to say. Have a great weekend everyone and safe travels – Rene
