Best Credit Cards

Congratulations to #57 Elena who guessed right and says: Its definitely the AMEX Platinum Membership Rewards personal or business card

This was a fun and educational weekend. Most readers guessed the right answer, that is to get Skyclub, ability to send to Delta and have NO international transaction fees you must have one of the above cards.

I currently do not have either of these cards even though by getting them, by taking advantage of the $200 in airline incidentals each year, the GOES $100 credit and then all the other perks, you can just about break even over a 12 month period for the fee for the card.

One of the reasons I don’t, for now, is I am as you saw this morning, pushing all my spending to the two Delta Reserve cards I already have and pay in total for the two $900 a year in fees, but it is well worth it to me to earn 60,000 MQM’s & 60,000 RDM’s on top of the RDM’s for the spend to get all those points. No MQM’s is a major drawback of the AMEX Platinum Membership Rewards cards if that is your goal!

Anyway, thanks for playing along and be sure to check back next week for another great giveaway! – René

Best Credit Cards

  1. Thanks Rene! These will come in handy as I don’t have the card or club access.

  2. Hi Rene, just curious about something: when you put VRs on your DL reserve cards, how much do buy on each card at a time? And how often do you do so? I’m a little gun shy because I’ve already been through an FR (this January)

  3. @Brabbit – ah the FR – that is NOT FUN. Yes I am careful, and I mix it up. I buy 2x$500 but also almost always get something else small each time I need at CVS anyway. I then always buy other things before I buy another set. – Rene

  4. René,
You forgot some things on the Amex Platinum.
Yes you get $200 airline credit and $100 registration Fee for GOES and skyclub, Admirals Club and USAirs blub as well as the priority black card for a bunch of international airlines clubs. There is so much more that you missed, at least on the business one.
5% back on all purchases from (any Nook reader purchase)
up to 10% back on purchases at fedex office (or up to 4x points per dollar)
up to 10% back or 4x points on Hertz, HP Direct, (minimum purchase required)
5% back (up to $1500) on stays at Fairfield, Springhill Suites, Residence Inn, Town Place and the Hyatt family of hotels
Free Gold Status on SPG and I believe Hertz #1 gold as well.
There is more, I just don’t have time to look it up now.
But last year, I got $390.56 back in credit off of my bill for spending $7829.76.

I do have a Delta Platinum Amex as well, but just won’t use it on things that the other card will give me a credit on.

  5. @Greg – yes all you said (business OPEN card) is 100% correct and I really should hold the card. The value is clear. I am so stuck on MQM’s it sometimes blocks out other values. Thanks for the great comment! – Rene
