To end this year I have a flurry of trips all over from Europe to the Caribbean and mileage runs from East to West to try to reach my goal of rolling over about 100,000 MQMs or Delta elite qualifying miles to make Diamond Medallion next year that much simpler.
I really did not have time to fit anymore trips this year in but when THIS last one showed up, for such an amazing price and CPM (cost per mile) I just had to snag one of them.
Here is why. I have a life long buddy who lives in the Vegas area and a chance to see him and to have dinner and crash at his place will be just great. Plus it is always nice to get away when it is cold here in the South Bend area in November.
Next reason is there will be at least one of my fellow BoardingArea.com bloggers MJ on the LAS-JAX part of the run. It will be fun to get to blog about the adventure along the way and I hope we get to see a few readers of our blogs as we hop from airport to airport.
The last reason I jumped on this was the amazing price and here is how I did it. I spent 20,000 of my FlexPerks points so the cost to position will only be some gas to an airport near home (not South Bend Airport as it would have cost 30,000 FlexPerks points to fly out of my home airport of SBN). Not only that, but I will buy a Delta e-Gift card the day I fly for $50 and get $25 credit back from my US Bank FlexPerks card as they rebate you back for incidentals up to $25 when you redeem points for a ticket. So, I will earn for the positioning trip Skymiles, MQMs and an e-Gift cert.
The mileage run price was just $140 & I will earn almost 5,000 MQM! How sweet! Then add the 4,000 MQM for the trip down (8998 total) and my out of pocket cost, even with gas and parking, will be under 2 CPM! That is a no brainer as I will also earn 20,000+ Skymiles as a Diamond Medallion so worst case I am break even cost wise for the entire trip. Earning, flying, blogging and having fun? Win=Win! – René
