If I had a nickel for every NYC reader who told me, Rene, I am in NYC, how can I get 10k Delta MQM before 31DEC for around $500, I could retire. The first thing I always say is look at either the Delta Personal Reserve AMEX or the Business card if you have have not had a either a Gold or Plat or Reserve card for 365+ days, either personal or business, you are then eligible for the new card bonus again.

If not, look at this idea. If you have some PTO days (you know you have some personal time off days you have to use by the end of the year), take DEC 11-13 off and go to Hawaii (HT to KissFlyGoodbye of FlyerTalk).

What? No really. You fly from NYC to OAK or Oakland California and overnight. You can use your Barclaycard Arrival(TM) World MasterCard® to pay for all of this.

Then after a short overnight you fly to Hawaii OGG and back to OAK and by the way it is K class so you could, maybe, upgrade via points or SWUs if you would want that (you don’t earn MQMs on Hawaiian leg HNL-OGG but who cares).

The bottom line of this little PTO fest of WED-FRI off is that you will earn for $534+hotel night is 13,324 MQMs at a NET 4CPM for both trips together when you add it up. Now If you happen to be GM+ you are getting 26,000+ Skymiles bringing the net price down to $274 plus hotel. Clearly you can look at ATL or MSP or DTW getting to OAK as well – Are we learning yet? – René

  2. Can you explained how you put this together? Would love to be able to find these MRs myself.

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction–big fan of the site!
