lisas credit score before cards

This is more like it. As you can see from the above clip, my Lisa’s credit score is very good from the free service to check your score (Credit Karma tends to show a lower than actual score).

One of the neatest things that now comes with the Barclaycard Arrival™ World MasterCard® card is free updates to your FICO score and as you can see it shows a much more accurate and higher score.

When it comes to your credit score, your Utilization of credit has a HIGH impact, as does your Payment history and any Derogatory marks! Keep these 3 TOPS! Then a MEDIUM impact is the Age of your credit followed by LOW impacts of your Total accounts and your Credit inquiries.

arrival card YES for Lisa

This time she chose to go for 3 cards. The first Barclaycard Arrival(TM) World MasterCard®, that was a NO last time, became a YES this time and was the one card we really wanted. Last time it was a NO due to too short a credit time with Barclaycard. This round has taught us a valuable lesson and you know I can not really fault Barclay’s for this; if you want to be approved for different Barclay’s products, you must use their cards, establish some time with them and show you are a customer who will be valuable to the bank. Shocking right? Seriously, I think we are going to see more of this moving forward. I can mix up my spending from gas to groceries with the banks that I want to apply for more cards with. It will add a layer of complexity to my yearly efforts, but that can work and show value to the banks.

Card number two was an Alaska card (not my link). This is a card you can get a bunch again and again. Since Hawaiian miles can no longer be used to fly on Delta, but Alaska can, it was time to start a collection of Alaska points for Lisa. As you can see, instantly approved.

The last one was USbank Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card. We got a wait but a few days later it was approved. We had followed the advice I give here about ARS & IDA and I do think it helped a ton. I encourage you to take the time to do this as well.

I am very pleased with this latest round for Lisa and now am planning for mine. I am looking at Chase INK Plus and maybe only ONE more card this time as I don’t have a bunch of time for spend on new cards as I will be full speed on my two Delta AMEX Reserve cards starting 01JAN2014! – René

  1. Interesting that CreditKarma shows lower than actual for you, it does the opposite for me (~15 points overstated on CreditKarma).

  2. I wish I could find out why Barclay’s denied me. I have top tier credit and never had a turndown with any other card. Annoying to say the least.

  3. I get a consistent 840 on all of the credit sites; far be it from me to complain about that. I too got approved for the Barclaycard World Arrival card this weekend; I’ll be using it on a short trip in two weeks. Looking forward to those $440!

  4. Rene,

Your plan, as a diamond, fits in exactly with mine. I just finished an apporama and my wife will do one in Dec and then back on the Delta cards for MQM’s. I also got the same comment from Barclays, about not spending on the card, so use it if you want to apply for additional cards from the same bank. My credit Karma score was 75 points lower than the Transunion score from the Arrival Card. What a nice perk, however, I would like to get Equifax actual score also.

  5. Barclays turned me down about six months ago saying I had sufficient credit with them (or something like that). I’d never been turned down for a card before, and I retaliated by cancelling my NFL card with them. Thayt just left the US Air card. A few days ago I applied for Arrival and got instant approval.

  6. I got approved for both the Club Carlson Premiere Rewards card and the Chase Sapphire (with chip and signature!) to get ready for my Norway trip. Yeah!
