We are nearing the end of the year and I need to start planning for my MQM goals via spend on my dual Delta AMEX Reserve cards. I have not yet decided whether to downgrade my one card to a Platinum or not, but need to make that call soon.

But for now, I wanted another Chase INK Plus card. I have one for my computer business, but not for my other endeavors. With some work, I was approved and now will very much enjoy the perks of having a new VISA branded INK Plus card.

I am slowly building back up my Ultimate Rewards points total again after having spent another ¼ million points on another trip to Grand Cayman this winter. Some may say spending them this way is not a good value, but to me getting a $4000 vacation for almost free for these plus some Hawiian points is amazing and I have more airline points than I can spend anyway.

As you read this I am just wrapping up #DeltaMR2013 and am a little tired, but had a blast with my fellow blogger MJ on Travel. I hope you had a chance to peek at some of our tweets and meeting readers along the way. Also please be sure and comment if you have not had time to do so on last Saturday’s SWAG day as I will have the drawing for the winners later tonight. – René

  1. Hi Rene
Thought I would let you know that Gogo Inflight has some holiday deals on right now:

    1. 4 all-day internet passes, valid on any device between Dec 14 and Dec 31 for $24.95

    2. 4 all day smartphone/ipod touch passes, valid between Dec 14 and Dec 31 for $14.95

Each all-day pass is valid for 24 hours of continuous access on Gogo equipped flights on the same airline from 12/14 through 12/31. One all-day pass is normally $14.. so it’s basically 2 for 1
    Take care

  2. René,

I would bring one of them down to the platinum. I think it is $75 for the year and not $400 (guessing). Instead of 15,000 mqm for $30,000 spend you get 10,000 mqm for $25,000 spend.

You will lose the sky club access, which you have on the other card and the annual companion ticket is coach only. To tell you the truth, in the 4 years that I have had the platinum card, I have never used my voucher.

I would take that extra $ saved on the second reserve card and use it towards a regular amex business platinum card, which gives you access to USAir and AA clubs as well as delta and also some other clubs via the priority card (not United). It also gives you back $200 in fees paid to your favorite airline (can be used on inflight meal and drink purchases, but not gogo) as well as change fees and such.

The card will also reimburse the $100 fee for getting a global entry card and get you 5% back on various Marriott hotels as well as Hyatt. at least 5% back on all fedex purchases and 5% back from BN.COM. the BN.COM is great if you are a user of the nook, as all your book and magazine purchases count.

At the end of the year, my savings usually are more than the annual fee.
