One of the biggest perks of reaching Diamond Medallion status is that I get to, not just pick a Platinum Medallion Choice Benefit gift but also two more Diamond ones. I cannot pick two of the same Diamond Choice Benefits but I did gift my wife Gold status.

The welcome kit included a welcome letter, two plastic bag tags with no bar code on the back as is the new practice from Delta and still frustrating that they have not fixed this and started printing it again. Also included were 4 drink / amenity coupons that will come in handy as when we fly together we bump down to her GOLD level for upgrade unless we split the itinerary (and we do some times).

There was also a pamphlet with an overview of the perks of Gold Medallion status.

I am disappointed that there were no “cords” to attach the tags to our bags and the overall impression of the kit is a bit underwhelming. Gold Medallion status really is a big deal and the point where Delta starts to love you as a flyer and I think they could spend a few more bucks on the 2014 kits. Doubt it, but time will tell! – René

  1. Got to agree that removing the FF number from the bag tags is a big disappointment. Not sure what the logic was but sure it was revenue related.

  2. Dude, this is much better than AA Platinum kit…that mail only have a piece of paper plus a platinum card. Not even a luggage tag…so you should be satisfied.

  3. plastic cords for the bag tags are available at the check=in desk of any SkyClub, as pointed out by Nina and David.

If you don’t particularly want the bag tags, they go for about $100/pair on eBay. I am not sure what people think they are good for (as they won’t afford the owner much of anything – perhaps SkyPriority boarding so long as the agent doesn’t look at your boarding pass closely), but there are people willing to make the buy.

That in itself, I believe, is not a violation of SkyMiles T&Cs.

  4. @Tyrone – No. You can print one from inside “My Delta” on Delta.com but that is it sad to say.
