swag saturdays delta points blogI love having the problem of too many points. I love the challenge of spending my points for the best seats, rooms and locations all over the world. I love the hunt for the best deal and I bet you do too. But one of the ways I do that is collect points everywhere as you never know what program might not just be the perfect fit for where ever you are going “next”. Lisa & I both went for Club Carlson cards due to the 85,000 bonus points after spend as well as the GOLD status that comes with the card even though I have never stayed at a Radisson but will at some time on some fun trip!

So that brings us this week’s SWAG Saturday. The rules as each week are here so check them out. Then on to my question for a shot at some nice travel toys!

For a shot at the above 10,000mAh Astro E3 power brick and a Craig rechargeable bluetooth speaker I need you to tell me what travel card you are planing on going for with your next round. Any card will do, just what card you are thinking about and if you want to share why that is fine too!  – René

  1. I like the Marriott Chase Visa card which offers a one free night (to start) each year.

  2. Jake Futerfas Reply

I’m a big fan of the Delta Platinum card. It has a resonable annual rate, plus I plan on hitting 25K on the card this year which qualifies me for the MQD waiver plus getting the MQM bonus for it as well.

  3. I’ve been wanting the AMEX Platinum card for a while, but have been waiting on the elusive 100,000 point offer. Baring that, I’ll go for the Barclay Arrival.

  4. I will likely go for the SPG Amex for the flexible rewards redemptions

  5. Chase United Visa Card – In addition to the perks when flying United and access to the United Lounge they give access to the Chase Visa Lounge during the world’s biggest events. They provided great access to exclusive events at the London Olympics and have a great lounge the upcoming Super Bowl in NYC! Dinners with Emeril and meeting former NFL players are some of the memorable experiences. Awesomeness.

  6. Club Carlson Premier Card! For some hotel nights in London in May!

  7. Have been considering the non-branded American Express Platinum charge card for the National Car Rental status, airline fee reimbursement, Priority Pass access, and Global Entry reimbursement.

  8. I am not quite sure yet but I am thinking about the Club Carlson Visa Signature because I need more points!

  9. I got the Delta Reserve for the MQM to keep my Gold level. Will be concentrating on making best use of that card this year.

  10. I’m still partial to my Delta Platinum AmEx. Has definitely helped maintain my Diamond status with the bonus MGMs after hitting $25 and $50k.

  11. Probably the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card for the 50K sign-up bonus. It’s been over a year since I cancelled it and need to boost my HHonors points after a weekend trip to the Northwest last weekend.

  12. VISA Version of the Chase Ink Bold. I could use a bump in my UR balance, and I’ve only had the MC version.

  13. I’m going to try the American Express Delta card. MSP is a Delta hub.

  14. I just signed up for club carlson last week. My next card will be a citi aadvantage card I want to start earning AA miles!

  15. Club Carlson card to take advantage of sign-up bonus and last award night free benefit.

  16. I’ve always wanted the SPG American Express….alot of frequent flyer junkies claim it’s their “go to” card.

  17. Christopher Goscinski Reply

Probably jumping on the Ink Bold for UR points. 🙂

  18. Hyatt visa for two free nights planned at the grand Hyatt Kauai

  19. I’m going for the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Master card with 75,000 AA miles bonus when spending $7,500 in 3 months. Thanks Rene for pointing me to the recent OfficeMax deal which helped me getting closer to my current Ink spending requirement.

  20. Thinking about the AA card to add some points to some AA points I will earn flying Quantis around Australia with friends.

  21. I like the delta reserve card. Looking forward to some nice free trips with the points and sky club access!

  22. I actually like the benefits of the Club Carlson card. Gold status, tons of points after initial spend amount, 40k points after each renewal, etc. I think the best part is booking one free night and get one free. This is gonna be a good two night weekend getaway card. Hope the hotels are good.

  23. Amex Gold – need an MR earner for occasional transfers to Avios for short-hauls & repositioning

  24. The Barclay Arrival Card and a targeted Chase United Explorer Card (55K).

  25. I’m planning on going with the Starwoods Amex. Gotta love that conversion ratio to AA miles!

  26. Thinking about the Alaska Airlines Visa, or the American Airlines Citi Platinum. Still undecided, researching.

  27. I’m thinking about the Club Carlson card. I have a ton of points and want to use them for a family trip and the free night on a two night trip is just too valuable.

  28. Considering a different airline card, perhaps an AA Plat. Not sure I won’t defect from DL one of these days but even if I don’t, first bag free etc. with AA is good when I can’t fly DL.

  29. Moving away from the Amex stuff this time. I had the US Bank FlexPerks card in the past and will return to that for a cool 20,000 signup points.

  30. Chase Ink, its been a while since I had one and while United sucks now, still good to have flexible points.

  31. alexismaraz Reply

I’m waiting for Amex to have a nice bonus for the Gold or Platinum cards, been 12 months since I had one!

  32. I’m going for the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Master Card with 75,000 AA miles bonus when spending $7,500 in 3 months. Thanks Rene for pointing out the OfficeMax special last week, which helped me get closer to my current Ink spending goal!

  33. The AS Visa as soon as they up the bonus to 35k+. My experiences with CC is their best properties are outside the US. We used some 3 weeks ago for some very nice properties in BKK for 20k and 22k per night. I would go back to either in a second. Also the Sheraton in Hua Hin is outstanding.

  34. Would love to get the 70,000 targeted Ink and add the CSP but having gotten Ink Bold, Freedom, Priority Club, Southwest Prem, and United Explorer in the 9 months, I think Chase is sick of me, so I’ll probably go for the Amex M-B Platinum and cancel my business platinum.

  35. I think I will stick with my citibank aa card and the chase united card for back up.

  36. Amex platinum for the points, car rental status, and delta lounge since I got rid of the reserve

  37. Citi Executive AAdvantage for the 75,000 miles and lounge access for me and my guests!

  38. Also thinking about the Fairmont Visa – would love to start planning a trip to Hawaii!

AMEX Enhanced Business Gold Rewards Card
My 18 months wait time is up and I am due to be able to reapply in Feb 2014. Churn TIME!!!

  40. Wish I could use a travel card. All my travel is business related and have to use required company card. Fortunately the don’t take points from us!

  41. Delta reserve personal. Gotta start building 2014 MQMs and MQD waiver!

  42. I’m going with either the Barclay Arrival or Southwest Airlines card … Maybe both

  43. Marriott and Club Carlson to stay where my United points get me

  44. Everyone here seems to love Barclay Arrival. But the 2.2% back is travel only and the card has an annual fee. Barclays lesser known Priceline credit card is 2% cash back which you can apply for nay charges on your credit card statement. Its a little more flexible. No bonus to start, but after you have the arrival card for the bonus, this is a good one for a no fee card. Another card I use a lot is SPG Amex. Great for rooms, mileage top offs etc.

  45. Hyatt card. Staying at more Hyatt properties and I feel like I am missing out on some perks.

  46. I’m on the fence right now. In looking at the SPG Amex or the Marriott rewards card. What would you go for Rene???

  47. Michael H.(oldfox) Reply

The Platinum from American Express. I’m waiting for a better signup bonus. 25,000 points isn’t very good.

  48. Going to shoot for the Club Carlson card as it’s been a while since my last apps.

  49. I am looking forward to AMEX SPG card once the signup bonus gets better.

  50. This is a timely question for me, because on this date one year ago I did an App-O-Rama, meaning that tomorrow those inquiries will be more than one year old. The annual fee on my personal gold Delta AMEX card I got then is about to hit, so probably on my next round I will apply for the business version of that card. I’m not sure yet what other cards I will include.

  51. It is so funny that you mentioned the Club Carlson, as that is the one I am going for. Just discovered it.

  52. Alaska Airlines Visa, for companion ticket and to jump-start me on Alaska miles!

  53. Just received the Barclays Arrival card for 40,000 point bonus and no foreign transaction fees.

  54. I am going for the Hilton Citi card, since it will give me 40,000 points whiich I need to stay in Munich this May. I only need to spend $1,000 within the first four months. I have Gold status so I will get cocktails and breakfast too!

  55. I plan on (hopefully) getting back the Chase Sapphire I had to cancel, since I had added my son as a co-owner and now he moved out on his own. He has a great credit rating for someone new in the workforce!

  56. Citi Executive AAdvantage World Master Card with 75,000 AA miles bonus when spending $7,500 in 3 months …at least wife gets in the lounge…

  57. SPG Amex business – waiting for the 365 days to pass. Have or had most of the others.

  58. Oddly enough, I’ve been thinking about the IHG Visa from Chase. Free night at ANY property each year for a small annual fee? Sounds like a keeper!

  59. Chase Marriott – I’m planning an Italy trip for next summer and Marriott has some nice properties there.

  60. AAdvantage Business Card, in hopes American will come back to our town once the merger is completed.

  61. IHG and probably one other like the no fee Hyatt Chase Visa (unless you have a recommendation for better no-fee hotel cards). My travel is trending more towards AirBnB rather than hotels, so I’m trying to keep miles as my priority. Having some hotel night awards is just as a backup for when AirBnb doesn’t work out.

  62. IHG because usually I stay with them enough to wish I had status but not enough to earn it any other way.

  63. Anything but Club Carlson. Stayed at Radisson Aruba and experienced poor service all week. Good thing I was there for a conference only…

  64. I am going after the Delta Reserve, I am going to chase gold status with DL this year so I can use the MQM’s

  65. Aa 75,000 bonus citi executive card. Need that lounge access and have a specific redemption in mind

  66. I’m a big Marriott fan. and racking up 600k points a year is not bad. Spending them all is hard until you take the extended family skiing in Park City!

  67. Mike Wilson Reply

Mr. Barclay! Can’t beat the 10% bonus redemption. Wife and I got the cards the same time….equivalint to $880.

  68. I believe Amex will soon do a big bonus on there platinum card and add some more benefits to it to make up for the recent changes in lounge access. So the platinum card will be my next card.

  69. I am planning on a Delta Amex this year so that I can get PQD and MQM for 2014.

  70. Since I am currently not happy with Delta because of their changes, I will probably get a high rewarding AA card whoever the issuer is.

  71. Will have to be a spg card so I can try a different hotel brand than Hilton.

  72. Need some AA miles for a planned trip to South America, so looking at Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® World MasterCard®

  73. The Chase Saphire Preferred to get more ultimate rewards points and no foreign transaction fees

  74. Barclay arrival. For the 2x spend on everything and no foreign transaction fees. Also the sign up spend is easy for quite a few points.

  75. Delta Business Reserve Amex- for the 10K MQM signup bonus, plus another 30K MQM with 60K spending which will be a cinch using Vanilla Reloads bought using the Reserve to pay my mortgage and pay down my mortgage principle- the technique I learned here on Delta Points. Thats 40K MQM and 40K Sky Pesos. The Sky Club access works for me since I travel alone, although I’d like to take a GF to europe using my free companion certificate. I don’t have enough spending to spread over another card and Delta is my airline of choice despite the “enhancements” which are coming fast and furious.

  76. Definitely the Barclay arrival card. Good sign up bonus and redemption rate with 10% back even on the no annual fee version.

  77. Amex Plat (but I am letting the dust settle a bit and I want to see if there will be a big sign up bonus soon)

  78. Barclaycard Arrival Card! 🙂 2% rewards is the best thing about it!

  79. I’m very happy with my Delta Platinum AmEx, and my CapitalOne Venture. I don’t currently have plans to get any other cards.

  80. After considering going up to the Reserve with Amex, I’m reconsidering Barclay MC… Time to diversify, especially with the devaluations of delta lately… and no foreign transaction fees?! Perfect for traveling!

  81. Michael J. Reply

I am looking to reapply for the Chase IHG Priority Club Visa as I should be able to get an elevated bonus offer after a year of not having the card (I hope)

  82. Everybody is raving about Chase Preferred Sapphire, so I might get this one.

  83. Likely, none, the value continues to drop, while a BassPro card will be worth the same.

  84. The AMEX Rewards Gold and/or Platinum. Just waiting for the right sign up bonus amounts. Both cards have great bonus categories and/or travel perks.

  85. Don’t know if this is expired but I’m going to go for the BoA Alaska cards to build up miles for an eventual Emirates flight.

  86. Uri Hadelsberg Reply

I love the Marriott Chase card since I can use points towards the Ritz Carlton!
