I don’t need to redo the post HERE where I show you how, if you are smart enough to hold a Barclay’s Arrival card, that you can get up to 4x+2x points (worth 6.6%) via buying AMEX gift card from the Arrival shopping portal but wanted to make sure you knew it was BACK as it is an amazingly sweet deal.

Also, as I have personally confirmed, we can as Delta flyers help meet our MQD exempt spending with these. I got 2x$3000 custom business gift cards and as I posted HERE the 24,000 Arrival points have posted as well as my points to my Delta AMEX card I used.

If you do not want Arrival points, or don’t have one, you can currently use BeFrugal and get 3% cash back plus your points for buying with say your Delta AMEX as well! – René

  1. AMEX only allowing $500 max per card. Good but not quite as lucrative as February’s offer.

  2. Not exactly same topic but thought you’d like to know . . Just went to CVS in Pittsburgh and was not allowed to purchase Vanilla Visa variable gift card($500) with credit card. The cashier said this was also in the email they received.

  3. Do you get additional points for buying with your AMEX card? Such as the AMEX Delta Skymiles Card?

  4. You said in the previous past, re: using the AMEX gift cards “You can just spend them like a normal card or buy other things that will let you cash them out”

Doesn’t this take many months, during which you are essentially giving AMEX a free loan, and losing out on potential interest earned on the $6k?

    • @Cogswell – Amazon Payments would take 6 months. There are many other ways if you have big bills. Clearly buying Visa Debit to BlueBird is best choice.

  5. One small correction: if you pay with the 2X arrival card you will earn a total of 6X (6 arrival points per dollar). Since each point is worth 1.1 cents towards travel this is like a 6.6% rebate

    • @Frequent Miler – ah yes undervalued it. I did not want to confuse the 4x on the site. Yes 6.6% or 6x is better wording. Txs Greg!

  6. Rene, when I go thru the Barclay’s portal AMEX is not allowing anything larger than $500 Cards. Last time I tried in Feb I was good to go on a $3000 card. Strange.

  7. My bad. Got it. Had to go into AMEX without signing in. Load my “cart”, then sign in.
    Thanks for helping.

  8. How do these get coded with Amex? Can it be used for obtaining minimum spend?

  9. GEOFF / DELTA PTS: I’m really interested in doing this right. If I follow the directions from the prior post dated 2/8/14, the $3000 card is not an option. If I go to the AMEX site directly before logging in (as Geoff suggests), I do see the $3000…but normally to get the portal points, you must get to the website through the portal. Do you see anything that will confirm the gift card purchased the latter way will get the 6+ pts per dollar spent? thanks.

  10. I made progress, but I’m not 100% sure I’ll get the extra 4 points. Here is what I did: 1) Login to Barclay, go to the Rewards Boost, click on the Amex gift card link, 2) Click on “Login for Faster checkout”, 3) Use your AMEX signon info, 4) Now you can access the amounts over $500. Once you go forward from there, I was able to sign up for the 90 day free shipping. I paid w/ my Barclay card so I’m not sure how soon I’ll see those bonus portal points. Hope this helps someone.

  11. Bought 5k at 500 dollar increments, through the portal using my Barclay’s card.I wish I knew the trick to buy 3k cards two days ago when I ordered. 30K Barclays arrival points for 48 bucks total. They just came, will pay a year’s cable, a hefty three month heating oil bill, and some others.

  12. Hi,
What’s the limit for buying Business GC’s? Also, can you let us know if the way “mike” did it qualifies for the 4x?
    Thanks

    • @Maria – I believe the MAX biz spend is $75,000 but I would not go that big! Most cards other than Citi cards seem to be working fine.

  13. Rene, About how long did it take Barclays to post your arrival points? Thanks E

  14. Looks like this is BACK down to 2% at Barclays.

Please let us know if it pops back up to 4% as i would like another.

    Thanks E

  15. Got my two Amex GCs this week. They are not showing up in the transaction history under the shopping portal yet. I am anxious to get those points! Had to book 3 tickets this morning for my son and his two friends to get home because of a spirit airline screw up. I used my barclays card to book tickets. Spirit is giving them a refund. I hope they hit my account quicker than 2 months. I had hoped to use those points for a car rental this coming week. Maybe I’ll have enough for both.
