In the past 3 days, I made efforts to buy personalized Amex cards as gifts. I used my Amex SPG card, which I use quite often at other merchants (including online merchants.) My purchase was declined by the Amex Gift Card people. I called to find out why. I was told by 3 different CSRs that if I entered just one period or comma at the wrong place in my billing address, it would be declined. The billing address has to be EXACTLY the same as the address I put on my application. (Since I don’t have a copy, I don’t recall where the punctuations are…Did I put a period after St. or a comma after my city of residence????)
It seems like the personnel approving or declining gift card purchases are not interpreting the rules properly. I called Amex CSRS & was told to contact the Gift Card Dept. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.
@Tom – for personal cards one order every 15 days!
