Credit Cards

I just gave away 15,000 Delta MQMs to a friend (and how you can do this too).

mqm and skymiles bonus met for 2015 delta points

Last month I completed over $60,000 in spending on my Delta AMEX Business Reserve card (not including yearly fee). My statement also closed around the 1st of the month and today my 15,000 bonus SkyMiles posted to my account on Delta.com and this is a signal that the MQMs are ready to be redeemed (even before you get the e-mail notice below).

We all should know about the current AMAZING 10,000 MQM new card Delta Platinum card MQMs, as well at the 20,000 MORE bonus MQMs if you reach spending of $50,000 by the 31st of December each year. But you can NOT send the Platinum MQMs to anyone as they are automatically sent to the card holders SkyMiles account.

But with the Reserve card, both personal and business it is very different (yes you can hold both at once or any combo of a personal Delta card and business card). You can either keep the MQMs for yourself, or do like I did in my case gift them (see E18 post on how to), making a good friend very VERY happy by pushing him over the top to earn Platinum Medallion status and one step closer to Diamond for the year. 🙂

What is the best choice to make right now? To me, as I posted before, the Platinum Delta AMEX that is currently offering 10k MQMs as a new card bonus is a great value. But, it will NOT help you with upgrades like the Reserve card does nor free Skyclub access and so much more. So, do consider all of this during your final choice of what Delta AMEX card to get.

Personally, if I had not had any Delta cards, I would get the personal AMEX Platinum card, meet the minimum spend, and get the business Reserve card and make sure I spent over $60,000 by 31DEC15 and end up with a possible grand total 50,000 MQMs across the two cards with all the bonus deals ongoing. Not a bad haul of elite points in 6 months!

If you are having issues meeting your spend goals be sure to check out THIS POST that highlights all the different ways you too can crank up your spend to hit each bonus level with either of the Delta AMEX cards you have or plan to get and hold!

Gave away to a friend? I thought you always said you were pretty greedy with your MQMs?

  2. Took the plunge and now will make GM status. Got the Platinum card (10K MQM) and upgraded my gold to the reserve (another 10K MQM).

We’ll see if I regret this come January 2017 (when/if I drop to no status), but since I SDC a lot, and tend to fly less DM/PM heavy times and routes, GM should be more useful to me than silver.

Looks like I’ve caught the elite status bug, largely thanks to Delta Points 😉
