Time for my wife’s latest round of travel cards and the first one was really a simple choice and you can support the blog if you want to go for this card as well (I just can not direct link to it) that is the Citi ThankYou Premier Card.
The result, as you can see, was an instant approval. But why this card? It gives her (us) 50,000 points after $3,000 spend. She can spend on Delta and get 1.25 cents value each. No fee first year for the card and we will likely dump (after spending points) or downgrade it at the end of the year. Plus, she can send these points to other airlines programs 1:1 notable, for those of us who like Skyteam, KLM/AF is one of them as well as another good choice Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program. Either way this is a no-brainer for me with just a quick visit to my local Simons Mall and a few VDGCs loaded over to my Bluebird to gain the free points.
She had never had this card but if it had been more than 18 months since she canceled it the rules say you can get the card again with Citi and get the new card bonus again. Just as an FYI, Chase’s current rule is new card bonus if it has been more than 24 months and AMEX is one time in your lifetime on personal cards (12 months for business cards with AMEX).
The next one is super simple too and was an instant approval. BofA will keep giving you Alaska points over and over. We get several of these a year. There is no direct link I can post for the current best offer that is 25,000 with $100 statement credit with 1st purchase and non-waived $75 year one fee. You are net, in effect, making $25 and 25k points. How simple is this? How you get the deal is simple. Make a “dummy” booking on AlaskaAir.com but stop on the last step before you book a ticket (skipping as many steps as they will let you) until you see the ad banner at the bottom of one of the pages for this offer.
We all should, at this point, know Alaska points are way more valuable that SkyMiles and one I always look to collect. I will not spend “more” on the card after I get the points and will cancel this card before the fee hits as BofA is NOT a nice bank since they do a HARD PULL on your credit if you even try to combine credit lines with them. Just dump their cards before a fee hits! As mentioned, I will not spend more on the card after I get the points as there are other programs I value more like my AMEX Membership Rewards points as well as others.
The last one was a simple choice as we really need the two free nights for a specific trip. I am not a “Hyatt” guy but I will take two free nights and $50 cash (thank you and NOT MY LINK). Not really much to say other than the fact that Lisa did not get an instant approval due to the fact that we already have a bunch of cards and credit with Chase. She simply called them and moved some of the credit over from another Chase card she has and they approved her. It really is that simple if you have a good credit score.
So there are the three cards she went for this round and all were approved on the same day. Delta AMEX cards did not fit into the current round despite the amazing offers ongoing (she has had all the personal Delta AMEX cards in the past so is not eligible for the personal card bonus deals sad to say). Either way this was a nice “little” one day score of points and travel value for us both! – René

PS – Don’t forget about the 60,000 point limited time Delta AMEX offer!
