Why in the world is Skybonus surprised that my Delta spend is down for 2015? The answer is so simple!

skybonus spend less

Some Delta e-mails just floor me. Take a look at the latest one above from Skybonus.

They arrogantly tell me: “We appreciate your continued loyalty to Delta, and as a Skybonus member, we want to ensure you get the most out of your participation in the program.”

No, Skybonus team, you don’t. I am already so disappointed with the program. Not with the rewards but the change early this year that unless you have 5+ employees flying at least one flight each you are out of the program on 1JAN2016. In other words Delta no longer sees any value from small business with 4 employees or less no matter how much they spend with Delta. Very short sighted IMO!

The PR e-mail asks me: “We noticed that your account activity has declined compared to last year.”

Well that one is not hard to answer – just look at the destruction of SkyMiles for the answer. I mean the loss of:

Why would I continue to reward Delta with my loyalty dollars when they are not showing loyalty to me. Skybonus you can expect next year for my account activity to continue to decline and you can see the above for the answer why.

The e-mail then goes on to give lots of great ideas to make sure I am getting my bonus points. Gee, thanks! How about this idea Skybonus – you post rewards faster. Delta, with SkyMiles, has really improved things. I don’t know if you have noticed or not but flights are crediting VERY quickly nowadays. Really not so much with Skybonus as it can take weeks and weeks and they still seem to have an issue with all flights crediting as they should even whey you HAVE correctly put in your Skybonus number when you book your ticket. Disappointing – then again I will not have to worry about it for that much longer when they kick me out of the program next year. 😉

how much lisa has spent with delta this year is zero

Bottom line is they say: “We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to welcoming your travelers on board.”

No, you really don’t. As I have said before, the Skybonus changes are not the main reason I, and my family, am spending less with Delta this year. All the crushing frequent flyer award program changes will move me, like this year, to spend my loyalty dollars with other airlines in 2016 guaranteed.

I can say this Skybonus, e-mails like this and your program changes are just one more disappointment, in a long string of disappointments, with the loyalty and rewards programs Delta offers to loyal flyers! – Rene

PS – LAST DAY to take advantage of the  increased 30,000  point SPG offer!

Is Delta Points going to get a name change?! It’s stuff like this that makes me wonder if it’s worth sticking with Delta.

    • @Spencer – I think a great number of people are rethinking where they will spend their loyalty dollars in 2016 due to all the crushing SkyMiles changes. Plus, this is the ONLY thing that will impact the mothership and maybe make them change course. They do not care about loyalty, only $$$!

  2. Please note after the TOP value for Be being bumped will be devalued from$1300.00 to $1,000.00

  3. so the question is do you switch your spending to american? work up status again? My experience in the past was the food was always bad so was the service, and the seats were even better in delta… will this be called americanpoints soon?

I am mid level 100k flying a year and I still get upgraded quite often with delta, so the questions basically are is it worth jumping ship? I have read that upgrades are almost non existant for american vs delta out of orlando/palm beach area.

    Thanks

  4. All of our complaining, and switching our flying habits, doesn’t seem to have made a dent with delta. I don’t think anything will except for a further decline in our economy and who wishes that on us? Certainly not me but I wish something would happen to make delta change their ways. Consolidation certainly has changed the “loyalty” programs.

it certainly is disappointing as a medallion to see less and less benefits not even yearly sometimes monthly NO RULES for when they change

  6. I logged into our Sky Bone Us account and noticed about 4 tickets missing so far in 2015. After a bit of searching, I found the ticket numbers and submitted for missing credit. Adding these 4 tickets puts us at 5+ people for the year, so we’re going to survive another year of membership. If you participate in Sky Bone Us, check your history for missing flight credits.

Giving very serious consideration to moving to KLM Flying Blue beginning in January. From DFW KLM offers nonstop flight to AMS-LHR-A and is an approved carrier for my company. I make the round trip 6+ times a year.

  8. We are PM’s and no longer get upgrades as Delta sells them at a deep discount at check-in. This halves the availability of upgradable first/business class seats. We no longer need Medallion Miles as they are worthless- just regular miles via the Delta Amex cards so we can get award travel. Much easier too! Also frees us up to use other, cheaper airlines. Brilliant move Delta!
