hyatt diamond status vs spg platinum status

My fellow BoardingArea blogger Gary from A View from the Wing has posted that Hyatt is possibly offering instant Diamond status for those who want it via twitter and can prove at least one stay and top status with programs like SPG.

This is huge and an amazing shot across the bow to the other chains and my guess is it will grab a ton of elites since the programs (SPG & Hyatt) are rather similar in requirements and in perks (not 1:1 but many similarities at least).

Plus, since Hyatt partners with Chase card and with some rather large spend (40k) they will give you 5 stay credits and that means you only would need 20 stays to keep your status after 2016 Diamond match year. That is a very enticing offer and I am in.

There WAS SPG! Don’t want to be Marriott’ed!

I reached out and got the ball rolling as I have very little confidence that Marriott will do anything but destroy all that we love with SPG including many of the amazing perks with Delta and AMEX. I hope I am flat out wrong in this but I doubt I am. I expect nothing but pain from Marriott when they slowly, or quickly, dismantle all we love from SPG. I am not waiting as I have been around long enough to see the writing on the wall. I will now wait to see how Hyatt responds.

Almost every blogger and reader I know who is loyal to Hyatt has nothing but amazing things to say about them. I guess, if Hyatt does match me, it is time to find out! Are you, as an SPG loyalist ready to give another hotel chain a try? – René

  1. Sadly all I have is Hilton and SPG Gold. What would either of these status levels equal with Hyatt?

  2. SPG Gold and HHHonors Gold here. Just sent a DM to their twitter acct. Waiting to see what happens.

  3. Giving it a shot. I’ve been Hilton Diamond for 3 years running. I’ve honestly considered moving over to Hyatts a few times based on how everyone talks so highly of them, but always stick with Hilton because I already have status with them and don’t want to risk losing status with them while simultaneously not having diamond with Hyatt. If they can/will actually comp me diamond through 2016 based on this promotion, I’m in.

Thanks for the heads up ! I turned away from my beloved Loews when they stopped offering points and I became aware of them
I spoke via Twitter Adam to Hyatt and I was told SPG gold will match up with Hyatt Platinum
So I sent the e mail and am hoping

  5. They matched my IHG Platinum status. I now have Diamond through 2017. I’m quite surprised. I also sent a screenshot of my SPG card, even though it’s only select plus.
