My guess is most of you who have an AMEX card followed the advice and quickly and simply got $15 off a $60 gift card from Amazon this week. I did, and now I am going to spend it (sorry, not giving it away on SWAG Saturday). One of the things I am picking up is the amazing deal (yeah 72% off retail) on a HUGE capacity power brick that is now way smaller than it used to be [UPDATE: above deal is over, however HERE is a similar deal still LIVE <-LINK). We all need power when we travel and this puppy just works! Also be aware there are other sweet black Friday deals as well!
The next deal is a 100% “pass” for me, but with a HT to Frequent Miler here on BoardingArea. It seems, after Hyatt’s VERY successful twitter effort to snag SPG elites who are unhappy with Marriott’s soon takeover of the chain, that Hilton wants to get in on the deal. Hilton is not Hyatt and the programs are nothing alike, thus my personal feeling to pass this one up. Plus, GOLD Hilton is so simple to get and gets you most of the perks you need. If you have a non-Delta AMEX Platinum card <-LINK you can get the upgrade FREE and even give the upgrade to someone else if you want!
Let’s give another HT to Frequent Miler with this shockingly sweet (and profitable) Kroger deal you need to take advantage of. We all should know grocery stores is a great way to get $400 mileage runs for $94 net. But that is buying VDGCs that do NOT, most times, trigger fuel points with Kroger. However, the fixed amount cards, most times, DO yield fuel points as you can see above. Here are the steps to get this deal.
1) Go to Kroger.com, and if you need to, create a login by entering your Kroger Plus card number.
2) Go to coupons
3) Click on gift cards
4) Find the $100 gift card one and click load to card
5) Be sure to scan your Kroger Plus card before you scan the gift card at register and will auto take off $5.95 as you can see on my receipt from above
If you do this for the next 3 days you will have over 1000 points. Then, before the points expire, take your and someone else in your family’s empty cars and fill up. 1000 = $1.00 off per gallon max 35 gallons so two cars empty save $35 dollars! Oh and the free FlexPerks points for buying the gift cards that you can load over to BlueBird at Walmart if you want. #Winning!
[UPDATE: Readers are reporting online coupon disappears after 1st use (should not happen). The only workaround I can see is to have your +1 create their own Kroger Plus account (simple) and can either give the clerk that account number (after you add the coupon to that on-line) or make a bar-code with their new number as a temporary Kroger Plus card].
The last one is a daily shot at some free points and more from SPG. Clearly my SPG stays next year will be far fewer than in 2015 but I will be happy to win free stuff if I can. Last instant win game my wife won a $25 AMAZON card. Takes only a few seconds each day to play and why not play along since it is free.
Have a safe weekend everyone! – René
