all the ways to support the blog

We get so many questions each day either via e-mail or Twitter along the lines of “Do you have a link for this or that”? We want you all to know how much we truly appreciate your reaching out to me in this way. So many folks just do what is quickest rather than taking the extra step to support the blog.

So, again, thank you for taking the time.

But questions like these mean we occasionally need to clear up a few things. First, folks need to understand how the blog works here at Boarding Area. If you are NOT running an “adblocker” software of some kind you are seeing five-ish ads spaced out around the blog. Those are run by Boarding Area.

They are what are called “impression” driven ads, that is, just by reading the blog, an impression of you being created, the blog gets a few fractions of a penny. Those, when you have millions of views a year, can become a source of income for the blog. So thank you for not blocking ads on the blog! 🙂

The next ones are what are called affiliate links.

We earn a commission whenever you use one of our links to apply for a credit card. For example, “We recommend the Chase Sapphire Preferred card — especially for people new to the points and miles world.” If you were to click on the Chase Sapphire Preferred link, apply for the card and get approved, we’d receive a commission. It costs you nothing extra to use our link — and we aren’t provided any personal information about who applies and who isn’t.

Our credit card affiliate partner, CardRatings.com, has a wide selection of credit cards. So if there’s a specific card you want, we’re always grateful when you start your search through Card Ratings.

Lastly, we have other links that support the blog. Like what? Well, EACH time you shop at Amazon.com if you start with THIS LINK you are supporting the blog. Again, you aren’t charged anything extra by using our Amazon link. We know it is extra effort to use but maybe you can just remember www.RenesPoints.com/AMAZON when you shop at Amazon instead of going direct? Or if you need some travel cards, think of www.RenesPoints.com/cards and you will find the offer you are looking for.

Just some ideas and thanks again for the help – it means so much! – Chris & René

  1. Interesting, I like hearing about how it works! I knew your referral links were a source of income – which is why I always use them. 🙂
