delta two day award travel pre sale

Anyone who has signed up to get mail from Delta and is ANY elite level or holds the Delta Gold, Platinum or Reserve credit cards should have got THIS email about a very limited award presale (i.e. it will expand to others soon) where you can get up to 30% off award prices.

dtw to fra coach in may 2016 award sale delta

For example, a search from Detroit to Frankfurt, Germany for May shows a number of open dates as low as 42,000 that is 30% off the LEVEL 1 lowest price coach award.

dtw to fra in may 2016 award sale delta

A search for business class is less rewarding with only one date for a one week trip at 87,000 SkyMiles round trip or 30% off the LEVEL 1 lowest price business class award.

There are a bunch of restrictions for this sale and blackout dates you can read about yourself at the sale link as well as a minimum 7 day stay and 14 day in advance purchase.

dtw to fra full flat seats

Before we look closer at this, know it is a good deal considering how many SkyMiles Delta.com normally displays on the booking page and even off the hidden award charts (as of 6FEB15) at the lowest levels. If you want to visit Europe this spring, and are an elite or hold a Delta AMEX card, do some searches today. You have 24 hours to cancel if you are starting in the USA, that is, through midnight tomorrow the 18th fee free.

But I am intrigued by this sale. First off it does show Delta IS in fact still using the award charts one year after they hid them from view (See E0 post for the old charts). This shameful practice still sickens me. You would never pay your taxes if the US government refused to allow you to see the tax code, but that is what Delta does. Also, notice the timing. It ends pre JUNE 1st when the real nasty prices for award tickets will float to ridiculous levels as well as the timing of upgrade awards from MUCH lower fare classes than today.

Either way, I will give Delta credit for the sale. They say they are “rewarding” the most loyal customers and any kind of discount, even with restrictions, is appreciated! – René

  1. René,

At this point, I would almost rather use the pay with miles, at least I will get the MQM for flying I am not going to Europe, but I do need to take 3 trips to Oregon by the first week of June.

I landed two seats from OMA to FRA using this promotion for 42,000. can’t beat that.

    • @Dov – Yes, a good way of looking at it. How can you have a “sale” when you do not publish the “retail” prices. 😉

  3. Interesting that neither my husband nor I got the email and we are both Platinum and have opted in for email offers.

  4. Well, I bit last night after I got the email. I grabbed a Biz seat from ATL to CDG in late May for 87k. It feels like a good deal to me, so I am going to choose to be happy about it and start brushing up my “oo la las”.

  5. I’m at DCA now waiting to start a trip to AMS that I booked last fall on the sale. And sent my brother and sister-in-law to London in Dec.
Probably won’t use this sale because I also grabbed the D1 sale to India. But these are still nice deals.

  6. I wonder what it means when you did not get the email about this promo and you are lifetime gold medallion and have the Delta Platinum card?????

    • @Barbara C – I would check your setting in your “My Delta” that you are set for Delta marketing / spam. And check your spam filter.

  7. Same here – I’m a Diamond – checked everything – but no email for me.

  8. Gold delta amex but I’m just a regular skymiles member – gave up any status when they added the mqd requirement – anyway, I cannot see any of the 87,000 fares. I can see the 42,000 fares. Do you happen to know if anyone else has this issue?
