With less that 24 hours to go before the highest ever SPG AMEX offer is about to expire so it is time to act now if you are going to go for either of these amazing offers as it is the APPLY BY date not your APPROVED BY date that matters for both:
Both are the highest new card bonus, after minimum spend, that AMEX has had on these cards and a full 5,000 points higher than last year’s offer and 10,000 points higher than the standard offer that will be back in place some time tomorrow.
Should you go for this card (either the personal, business OR both)? Just about everyone in the frequent flyer community agrees that SPG points are the most valuable and versatile travel points you can collect. The good news is that it is seeming less and less likely that your SPG points will be Marriott’ed after all. You have no idea how happy this makes me. The news of the merger pushed me to give up on SPG status for 2016. As long as Marriott does stay away, I may just rethink 2017 as, to me, earning and burning SPG points has tremendous value.
What else should you consider, perhaps at the same time as going for the SPG offers? Marriott points (I know sounds funny after my Marriott cracks above). No, seriously, both the personal and business 80,000 point HOTEL card offers will end at some point soon we just don’t know when because Chase has not given us a final end date like SPG has with the 35k offer. So consider those HOTEL cards as while not as valuable as SPG they are still a huge bonus after spend.
Not interest in Marriott points – OK – then look at the Chase BANK Sapphire card. The 50,000 point offer after spend is a huge chunk of points that can be used so many way including transfers to partners. Do keep in mind you are highly unlikely to be approved for this card under the 5/24 rule, that is, if you have applied for 5 or more cards from ANY banks (even as an AU or authorized user) for the past 24 months. Sad and frustrating but there we have it – these are the current Chase rules!
Lastly on the business side is the current 60,000 Chase INK offer. Again, a HUGE point bonus after spend and one that I believe will drop down to 50,000 soon. Ultimate rewards, to me, are right behind SPG points in value and offers like this are hard to say no to. Plus, many are reporting the 5/24 rule for Chase business cards is on the way in April so again, time to act NOW if you are going to go for Chase business cards. – René
