I earn a TON of points from new card bonus deals. The current Delta card offers are just amazing and you should be considering them before they end in a little over a week or so. I got in and have already completed my spend and should see the bonus points on my very first statement. #Winning.
I also am happy to take part in promotions where I have to do “X, Y & Z” to get a ton of bonus points when the math works out in my favor. But I hate when things go sideways and I have to spend extra time to get what was promised by a company.
But right now SPG on their Four Points, Aloft & Elements brands is having a deal that seems sweet. It is simple as the savings is upfront, that is, all I have to do is book with THIS link to get the deal when paying with an AMEX card (not just Delta ones). Well, not so fast:
Notice if I wanted to use this for my upcoming visit to see the PGA on my Starpoints in July I can only stay Thursday night to Sunday. Frustrating limitation? You bet. Take a look at the rest of the (lengthy) T&C of the promo:

Now I get that some restrictions have to be in place but when it is really so limited it can un-motivate you to take part at all. I could, however, see this as a nice deal if you are looking for say a weekend getaway before school starts in August somewhere so do look around if there are locations that can save you some money.
As for me, I still find much better value paying with points for my stays whenever possible. Being able to stay at a great many SPG hotels for 3000-4000 points a night is one of the main reasons I will be so sad to see SPG become part of Marriott soon! – René
