Talk about sweet timing! If you are short on MQMs this year, and have NEVER EVER held either the the Delta Gold or Platinum business card you are eligible to receive the new card bonus offer (after spend). Let’s look at the offers that are new and for a limited time (ends 11/09/2016) – [This offer has expired]:

The Gold card offer is very similar to the one that was out this past summer. It is not the highest they have ever offered but it is a very solid offer. Now that all AMEX card bonus offers are once in your lifetime, you want to choose a good one. The Platinum offer I have never ever seen a higher public offer on the SkyMiles side and very few times have I ever seen higher MQMs offered.

Should you get either of these offers? While the Gold card does waive the fee for the first year I would strongly consider the Platinum card if you are looking for elite status. Delta will likely offer to sell you MQMs for thousands of dollars in December again this year and for the non-waived $195 fee this is a solid offer for just the MQMs alone (if you need them that is). Plus, since they are offering a $100 statement credit for Delta purchases inside the first 3 months, you are really only net paying $95 out of pocket for the first year. That is an amazing value.

Lastly, remember with the Platinum card, the BOGOF coach certificate does NOT come in year one. It will only arrive when your second year annual fee bills. Those who use this cert each year often comment that this perk alone helps offset the $195 fee. Either card comes with the 1st checked bag free (up to 9 total on the same reservation) and board with ZONE 1 (even on a BASIC E class fare ticket) and so much more.

Are you jumping on this limited time offer? – René

  1. Hi. Can I apply for the platinum card for I second company that I am a partner if I have one already on one company

  2. @motty – You can try but please know up front YMMV about the bonus as AMEX may, due to other company and EIN, give you the bonus again, OR, they may not. Reports from readers have been mixed so just can not say YES 100% nor can I say NO 100%. Sorry, I know this not that helpful.

  3. If I recall, Delta is one of the few, if not only airline, that miles do not expire. Is that correct?

Also, I am about 50K short of having lifetime 1MM on Delta. Will these count toward that and push me over? Any benefit to being million miler on Delta? Most of my nearly MM miles were earned butt in seat.

  4. I have had the platinum card since 1999 and, if I recall correctly, there were no such bonus offers back then. What are the chances that delta would give me the bonus since I never received a bonus even though I do have this card? I did get a bonus on a business reserve card three years ago through your link because that’s when I discovered your blog.

  5. @John – Correct on the miles never expire (that is until you do – you die, they are gone). As to the 1MM, you need to look at the PLATINUM card as only MQMs count towards MM status. So you can pick up 10k with the Platinum card. Clear?

  6. @Chris – Zero. Zilch. Nada. Never. The rule is if in any shape and form you have HELD the card not bonus. Period. 5 years. 10 years. No matter how long. The ONLY YMMV shot is an EIN you did not use before and then it is still maybe.

  7. I just received an offer for the delta platinum card with a 70,000 mile bonus plus 70,000 sky bonus points And 10,000 MQM’s. (after 5k spend in 3 months)

  8. Got the Amex DL Plat Biz card this summer for 50k skymiles. Any chance Amex could match me to 70k miles? I’m still within 90 days of application date.

  9. Rene, if I had the Gold Amex Delta card in the past, does that preclude me from the 70k miles Platinum offer?

  10. referred. Thanks for the link! Sad that I’d rather see you get the credit than get the 10K ref. SkyPebbles myself.

  11. @gordon lol @skybonus points. I think I got that offer too. Talk about who cares. I completely forgot that I received that one.

  12. Email Rene if anyone needs a referral for the Delta Platinum card. The offer is as follows: 70,000 bonus miles + 10,000 MQM’s after $3,000 spend in the first three months and a $100 credit on a Delta Purchase within the first 3 months of card ownership. Referral offer expires on 2/1/17!

  13. Rene, My wife and I have each had AMEX Delta Platinum cards for the past few years. This year we each added the AMEX Delta Business Platinum cards. For the 2017 MQD waiver, does the entire $25k have to be spent on one card, or is the MQD waiver cumulatively counted on both cards since they are for the same Skypeso number?
    Ron and Debbie

  14. @Ron – Per person, spend on all your personal and business Delta AMEX cards in total (minus annual fees) goes to your MQD 25k waver. Any AU cards you add also go to YOUR totals. Clear?
