My IHG Accelerate Q1 – 2017 looks workable – but they keep “upping” my goals!

I will IHG – Maybe!

In some ways I am sad that I will not hold top tier hotel status with any chain for 2017 and yet on the other hand it is liberating and exciting to now only choose hotels that are offering me the best room, perks and most importantly rewards back for each and every stay.

This worked – love a good bonus offer!

I have just today received the confirmation that my points from the last round of IHG Accelerate have dumped into my account. That one, unlike the previous one that required only one somewhat expensive stay to complete, worked with my travel plans to end the year.

There is a lot of MAYBE this round!

But take a look at the one to start 2017 (you can register here btw). Rather than just 1 or even 3 tasks like the times before I have to accomplish 4 of the 5 tasks they have given me to end up with ~40,000 bonus points.

As you can see by my thinking, I think I will get this one done but I am right on the edge of passing this time. I don’t like the trend of more-more-more and maybe moving to another hotel chain for Q1-17 will motivate IHG to not require quite so much the next round. Also, as far as buying points as one of the choices, I only buy IHG points when they are offering 100% bonus points and then only when I need them.

On the plus side my free night cert from my Chase IHG HOTEL rewards card has also dumped into my account and I love using that each year to stay at Intercontinental hotels that would cost hundreds of dollars that I get for the $49 annual fee for the card. That is a card I will keep forever if Chase does not mess it up (I also love the free Platinum status it gives me too).

You tell me. What was your IHG Accelerate offer for the start of 2017? Were you impressed and or will you be going for the bonus points this round? – René

  1. The requirements do seem to be growing to new levels each time. My offer requires a minimum of 11 nights for the 41k bonus. I’m sure that’s tied to the fact I just acquired Spire Elite status (strictly out of convenience w/ work as the extra benefits are nothing worth chasing).

  2. i think the trick to IHG offer is to not engage with every quarterly offer, when its bad, let it pass and wait for the next quarter or even 2 but eventually IHG will entice you to come back and offers a real good deal. I noticed this trend on my personal account.

  3. Mine has a total of 7 offers, with another 2 additional items based off of the offers, for a total of 68.1k points. One of the offers to complete is to apply for their credit card.

While I am spire with IHG, I have found that status doesn’t really mean anything other than a handful of points on checkin or a .39c bottle of water.

  4. I agree with choi lu — my 41,000 is very doable, and I plan on doing it…luckily, not much going on in January, maybe a mileage run to one of the major markets they refer to!

  5. IHG has made this accelerate too difficult for me to obtain
    But
Hopefully the next one shall be better
