American Express Gold card members: check your email for an offer to receive up to 20,000 Membership Rewards points for adding users to your account.
Each new cardholder you add earns you 5,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $500 in eligible purchases during the first three months of being added to your account. A maximum of 20,000 points may be earned.
I didn’t see the word “bonus” used anywhere in the email — but I assume the 5,000 points each user accrues after $500 in spend are offer bonus points. So everyday spend (more on that below) should earn points above and beyond, too.
The American Express Gold Card
I personally use and enjoy the American Express Gold (learn more and compare to other cards) for several reasons:
It offers 4X Membership Rewards points in two different categories:
- Restaurants worldwide
- US supermarkets (up to $25,000 per year in purchases)
Plus, you earn 3X points on flights purchased directly with airlines or through AmexTravel.com.
Annual Airline and Dining Credits
Cardholders annually receive $100 credit for airline incidentals and fees (checked baggage, onboard food and beverage, etc).
You can also save up to $10 each month (or $120 annually) when using the American Express Gold Card to pay for meals at:
- The Cheesecake Factory
- Ruth’s Chris Steak House
- participating Shake Shack locations
The American Express Gold Card carries a $250 annual fee. Terms apply.
