Check your American Express cards for Amex Offers for You offering $5 statement credit or 500 Membership Rewards points when you spend $35 or more during a single transaction at gas stations. Each offer can be used up to three times before year’s end, netting you either $15 or 1500 bonus Membership Rewards points.

The offers appear to be targeted.

I received the 500 bonus MR offer on my Business Platinum Card from American Express.

Amex Offer for You: Spend $35 at gas stations, get 500 bonus Membership Rewards points.

My Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card from American Express was targeted for the $5 statement credit offer.

Amex Offer for You: Spend $35 at gas stations, get 500 bonus Membership Rewards points.

Even if your gas expenses are assumed by other means (i.e. company gas card or your employer’s business’ credit card), keep in mind gas stations usually sell (much) more than fuel. If you find a gas station selling merchant gift cards, that might be a nice option. (Treat yourself to an Amazon gift card and car wash! 🙂 )

  1. Fairly sure only pump purchases work on the credit. Would not recommend any in store gas stations purchases, to include gift cards.

  2. @JRG: Nothing in the terms state purchases must be at the pump. Neither in-store nor gift cards are specifically excluded.

For specific gas station offers, i.e. BP, Chevron, etc., I’ve seen offers limited to purchases made only at pumps.
