I am a HUGE fan of Amex Offers (you have to activate them then follow the rules). Even though you are now limited to one offer per person (before you could do many via many cards), it is still a way to save a lot of money on cards that have a yearly fee or make money on no-fee Amex cards as well.
The above offer is one that just about everyone (I think) is targeted for if you have an Amex card personal or business.
I had to do this one twice because the first time I just used my Amex card at the pump not realizing (bad blogger) that I needed to install the BPme app and load my Amex card into the app and pay with the app to qualify for the offer.
I am kinda happy I did mess up because the first time you load and use the BPme app you can get 20 cents off per gallon and it in no way impacts the Amex $10 off offer (you do still have to net pay over $25).
Bottom line, here is the almost 50% savings breakdown:
- $10 cash back from Amex with the activated offer
- 20 cents off 1st time using BPme app saved me $2.46
- I earned 2% cash back on my Blue Cash Everyday card.
- I have 5 cents off / gallon at BP for the rest of the year.
- All-in saved $12.98 on a $26.15 purchase!
This time of the year I get tons of emails and questions from readers about cards and what they should keep or cancel and if an annual fee is really worth it (with many cards fees going up next year). My advice is consider a downgrade (ONLY if you have already harvested the 1x lifetime new card bonus for whatever Amex card you are considering) to a no fee or lower fee card inside the same family of Amex cards – if nothing else for sweet Amex offers like the above! – René
