We’ve been hearing about a new Delta Sky Club being planned in Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s (MSP) G concourse. A newspaper article today provides some interesting, updated information!
Delta Sky Club at MSP — Concourse G
Around this time last year, signs touting a new club popped up.
Some renderings showed up online. Aside from that, we heard the new lounge would open in 2021 and likely have a Sky Deck. I was in MSP a couple of months ago and didn’t really see much activity down in the nether regions of the G concourse.
Today, some new details emerged.
Janet Moore spills the details in the Minneapolis StarTribune. She says the 18,000-square-foot (impressive!) club will feature:
- high-speed Wi-Fi
- power outlets at almost every seat
- “award-winning” beverages
- “re-imagined” food offerings
- a Sky Deck
The club is now projected to open in 2022.
Most of this sounds how Delta promotes many of its new clubs. The big details for me were the club’s size and projected opening date.
She adds, “At MSP, Delta will use its own funds to finish the space, but Delta did not say how much it was spending here.”
What Up, G?
I’m excited by this Sky Club addition. I travel through MSP several times each year — and most of my flights to Los Angeles are somewhere deep in the G concourse.
Also coming to the G concourse, Ms. Moore says, is “a 71,300-square-foot addition that includes restrooms, an additional gate lobby, event space, a two-story rotunda, and more restaurants and shops.”
I’ve never heard of event space in an airport. Would some #AvGeeks throw baby showers or bachelor parties there or something? 🙂
Pay Attention, Amex and The Club
Here’s something that stood out. Henry Harteveldt, president of Atmosphere Research Group, said in the article, “Airport lounges not just for departing passengers, they also serve arriving passengers.”
More MSP Improvements
MSP’s dungeon-like baggage claim area in the Lindbergh Terminal is being improved.
Metropolitan Airports Commission director of Airport Development Heather Leide told Ms. Moore that raised ceilings and improved lighting brighten up the space. Plus, the overall length of baggage carousels will be increased by 50%.
