Long time readers of this blog know I love massages when I travel. I used to really enjoy long layovers at the Amex Centurion lounges with a spa since you used to be able to get unlimited chair massages.
But since they reduced that to one per visit and implemented the nasty 3 hour before flight visit rule, getting even one can be almost impossible.
I have also visited countless XpresSpas as well as BeRelax spas all over the planet along the way. One of my favorite ever massages was in my home town of Gothenburg Sweden at the Royal Purple Orchid Spa Thaimassage (site is in Swedish FYI). I had never had a real Thai massage and when I walked out I felt like I had just done a few tequila shots (yeah, half loopy). But my was it an amazing experience.
Well, now I, along with just about everyone else on the planet, am stuck at home for weeks and weeks. Don’t get me wrong I welcome this. My “to-do” list of home projects is forever long and I am slowly starting to knock them out one by one. But many of them make me sore.
Since I can not go visit my local massage therapist, my wife and I decided to step up and have been binge-watching how to give a professional massage on YouTube. We ordered the massage bed from Amazon and used a points card that gave us the best yield and then promptly took out of our HSA account the corresponding amount to cover the charge (#ProTip).
So now we take turns every few days, that is, I get a massage then a few days later my wife gets one. Not bad being married to your best friend of well over 30 years! Plus, one of the worst things about a great 1-hour massage is that you have to drive home – now I can just walk downstairs from our guest room to take a hot shower and then into jammies and a glass of red wine. Just Perfect!
