The Delta Amex cards’ increased welcome bonus offers are scheduled to expire tomorrow, April 1.

I hoped that given the current coronavirus-induced financial situation that offers would be extended. But I highly doubt it. And I certainly don’t expect Delta Amex offers this lucrative to be available for a while.

UPDATED: Offers expired. Please see the current Delta Amex welcome offers.

That being said: I’ve been wrong before. I hope that’s the case in this situation. But if banks’ recent skittishness is any indicator, the offers will drop significantly after tomorrow.

Delta Air Lines co-branded metal American Express cards.

Delta Reserve Cards: 100,000 SkyMiles & 20,000 MQM Bonuses

Both the consumer/personal Delta Reserve card and the business Delta Reserve card offer 100,000 bonus SkyMiles and 20,000 MQM.

  • Earn 80,000 bonus SkyMiles and 20,000 MQM after spending $5,000 in purchases within three months of being approved for your new card.
  • Receive an additional 20,000 bonus SkyMiles after your first anniversary of card membership.

It’ll require a full year to receive the entire 100,000 SkyMile bonus — assuming you spend $5,000 within the first three months of card membership.

Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card from American Express

We value 100,000 SkyMiles worth at least $1,000 of travel.

The Reserve cards’ annual fees are $550 each. You’re basically out of pocket only $100 once you receive the 100,000 mile bonus. (Two years of annual fees = $1100.) But the 20,000 MQM surely make up for that.

Each Delta Reserve card comes with:

  • Complimentary Sky Club access when flying a same-day Delta operated or marketed itinerary.
  • Share the love! Two Sky Club guest passes each year.
  • Complimentary American Express Centurion Lounge access when flying a same-day Delta operated or marketed itinerary — provided your trip was purchased with an eligible American Express card.
  • Upgrade priority for Medallion members
  • Complimentary upgrade eligibility for non-Medallion members
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit

Delta Platinum Cards: 100,000 SkyMiles Bonuses

Both the consumer/personal Delta Platinum card and the business Delta Platinum card offer 100,000 bonus SkyMiles.

  • Earn 80,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $3,000 in purchases within three months of being approved for your new card.
  • Receive an additional 20,000 bonus SkyMiles after your first anniversary of card membership.

If you’re chasing redeemable SkyMiles, this is a fantastic offer.  Even though each card carries a $250 annual fee, you’ll still come out ahead points-wise.

No welcome bonus MQM for either Delta Platinum Amex at this time.

Keep in mind that the consumer/personal Delta Platinum card now earns 2X at restaurants and grocery stores — which is up from the boring 1X 🙂 .

Delta Gold Amexes: 70,000 SkyMiles Bonuses!

Both the personal and business Gold Amexes offer these bonuses:

  • Earn 60,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $2,000 in purchases within three months of being approved for your new card.
  • Receive an additional 10,000 bonus SkyMiles after your first anniversary of card membership.

Certainly not as lucrative as the other two deals — still good for those needing to top off their SkyMiles tanks. 🙂

The $99 annual fee is waived the first year.

Terms apply to all the above offers.

Should You Get a Credit Card Now?

That’s the 100,000 bonus SkyMiles question. 😉 The current economic and job environment gives us a few items to consider.

Finances

Everyone’s financial situation is unique to that person.

One person might easily afford the Delta Reserve‘s $5,000 minimum spend requirement and $550 annual fee. But her neighbor or colleague could have trouble rubbing two pennies together right now.

So if you can afford a card’s minimum spend requirement and annual fee, then apply for it!

Elite Status

If 20,000 MQM will push you over the next status tier for the rest of this year and all of 2021, then jump on the consumer/personal Delta Reserve card or the business Delta Reserve card. This assumes you can afford the minimum spend requirements and annual fees. (See above.)

But we don’t yet know if Delta will extend everyone’s elite status another year (which could really be sweet if you jump up a level now!). Though we certainly hope they do. 🙂

Card Benefits

This applies primarily to folks thinking about the consumer/personal Delta Reserve card or the business Delta Reserve card. Keep in mind most people can’t enjoy the Sky Club perk right away (not every Sky Club is open) and Amex Centurion Lounges are closed.

Again, everyone’s situation is different. You may have to travel for work or something else and enjoy the great benefit.

As a long term play, though, the consumer/personal Delta Reserve card and business Delta Reserve card are good for frequent Delta travelers.

Final Approach

I really like these offers — especially the consumer/personal Delta Reserve card or the business Delta Reserve card 20,000 MQM bonuses.

If you don’t need MQM and want to load up on SkyMiles, the consumer/personal Delta Platinum card and the business Delta Platinum card are the way to go.

I don’t think we’ll see good Delta Amex welcome offers for a while, so if you have the ways and means to meet the minimum spend, go for it.
