We haven’t posted any mileage runs in about three months. We certainly love taking them, sure; but believe it or not, we also enjoy finding runs and writing about them! Personally, I know people get excited about a good mileage run deal — and that excitement gets me excited, too!

Neither René nor I currently plan to travel until 2021. (Though my will is being tested! 🙂 ) But we’ve heard from readers who are either traveling right now or eager to fly again. And people want mileage runs! Especially because all MQM this year roll over into 2021 and count toward 2022 status.

I’m a little mixed about posting fun-runs — but some people are going to travel, come hell or high water. Other people won’t set foot near a plane until a COVID-19 vaccine comes along. As I noted, René and I are more in the latter camp. If you’re in the former, just please be responsible and careful.

So We’ll Resume SOME Mileage Run Posts!

We’ll start with mileage runs for the 48 contiguous United States. And maybe some international trips for later in the year or sometime during 2021.

Why limit our runs?

Hawaii and Alaska each have their own coronavirus travel restrictions in place. The US-Canadian border is closed to non-essential travel — and that restriction may be extended. Some countries require incoming passengers to quarantine.

A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 parks at a Terminal 2 gate at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Plus, when and if the second wave of COVID-19 strikes during fall or early winter, who knows where it will happen and what additional border closings or quarantines will suddenly take effect?

If you really want an international run, don’t forget that you can always get in touch with Juicy Miles for their assistance in creating a trip.

You Tell Us: Should We Post Basic Economy Runs?

Because Delta is blocking middle seats through at least September 30, people who book Basic Economy tickets are all but guaranteed an aisle or window seat — with no one sitting next to them.

Basic Economy fares aren’t eligible for first class or Comfort+ upgrades. But if you can live with that, you can save yourself a pretty penny — and not worry about anyone sitting next to you.

So with that in mind, are you interested in Basic Economy runs? Tell us in our poll/survey below!

Where Can You Find Our Mileage Run Posts?

We generally post mileage runs as we find them. In the good old days before COVID-19, we’d sometimes post five or six (or more) in a day. Other times, we’d go days without finding anything great.

So make sure you don’t miss a post!

  1. Why are you going to post suggestions for, by definition, unnecessary flights, when even you don’t think it is advisable to fly this year? I know it’s your blog and presumably your livelihood to post new info, but I’m not sure this is a good idea.

    • Thanks for your comment, Naoyuki. I understand what you’re saying. As I wrote, “I’m a little mixed about posting fun-runs — but some people are going to travel, come hell or high water.” People who want to fly, will. Those of us who feel safer on the ground, won’t.

Some in the points and miles hobby may not see mileage runs as “unnecessary flights.” 🙂

      Thanks again.

  2. Personally, I am currently unemployed and would love some good MQD runs on partners as soon as countries open. Normally I am very limited to runs I can take due to work. Now would be perfect for me. Turnarounds without leaving the airport.

  3. At the end of May2020, I made a 9K mileage run in 6 days… LGA-MSP-ATL (3 nights)-LGA for USD240 and JFK-ATL-CHS-ATL (overnight)-SEA-JFK for USD190. Took advantage of schedule reductions to tailor my itinerary to new flights without any change fee. Book now and take advantage of summer mileage runs.

  4. I appreciate you starting to post these back up again. I personally went from traveling 3/4 weeks a month to being at home the past 3+ months and my partner has literally been asking me to take a trip to give them some alone time. I’m ready to take a trip to someplace with low COVID rates. I’m based in ATL, so while I wouldn’t choose to go to Las Vegas right now, I’d jump on a flight to Bozeman or something like that in an instant.
