Southwest and Chase launched limited-time offers for their personal/consumer co-branded credit cards today!

OFFERS EXPIRED. PLEASE SEE CURRENT OFFERS FOR:

We saw bigger offers earlier in the year — but the spend-earnings ratios were not nearly as good as these offers. In January, the cards offered 75,000 bonus Rapid Rewards points — if you spent $5,000 within six months of being approved. That came out to 6.7 cents per bonus mile.

A Southwest Airlines A1 boarding pass ("Business Select") is seen at the bar inside Terminal A of Hollywood Burbank Airport / Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California (BUR).
Get reimbursed for up to four (4) upgraded boardings each year with the Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card!

Bonus points earned from these welcome offers do count toward the vaunted Southwest Companion Pass. BUT you can hold only one Southwest consumer credit card at a time. So perish the thoughts of collecting ’em all at the same time.

So with that in mind, let’s check out the three cards!

Final Approach

I like these offers. The bonus points — especially for $2,000 — are a good deal.

My only beef with the Southwest cards is their bonus categories — or lack thereof. The cards don’t really give you any motivation to use them every day after you receive the welcome bonus. If you want a good everyday card, consider either the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred.

Both cards earn Ultimate Rewards points, which you can then transfer to Southwest Rapids Rewards (or use at bonuses to purchase Southwest travel through the Chase site). The CSR earns 3X on dining and travel, while the CSP earns 2X on those categories.

Still, these certainly are worth a gander if you’re a Southwest fan and need to earn some Rapid Rewards points STAT.
