There’s more credit card action this month, with the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card now offering a whopping 100,000 bonus points for new approvals who meet the minimum spend terms!

But they’ve added what I think is an interesting twist.

You’ll earn 100,000 bonus miles when you spend $20,000 on purchases within the first 12 months of being approved. Because the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earns 2X miles on each purchase, you essentially net 140,000 total miles.

Call me cheap, but $20,000 is a hefty chunk o’ change. But here’s where that twist comes in.

You can still earn 50,000 bonus miles if you spend $3000 on purchases within three months of approval.

That’s a little more palatable for my wallet — especially these days. (There may be a better option, though — read on.)

Chase Sapphire Preferred: A Happy Medium?

If you have $20,000 burning a hole in your pocket and want to pick up 140,000 points, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is certainly a decent option. I’ll bet the 50,000 bonus points for $3,000 in spending is easier for many people.

However, keep in mind the Chase Sapphire Preferred currently offers 80,000 bonus Ultimate Rewards points when you spend $4,000 in purchases within three months of being approved.

Consider you can redeem Ultimate Rewards points for a 25% bonus through the Chase travel portal — essentially making that 80,000 bonus points sum worth $1,000 of travel.
