The offer has expired.

Just a few hours remain to take advantage of a special welcome offer for one of my favorite cashback credit cards, the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express. The promotion waives the card’s $95 annual fee for the first year. Plus, it awards you a $300 statement credit after you spend $3000 in eligible purchases within six months of being approved. (If I remember correctly, it’s usually $250 back and three months to reach the minimum spend requirement. But I believe that figure was $1,000 or $2,000. I honestly don’t remember.)

6% cashback is the reason we charge groceries to our Blue Cash Preferred card!

Here’s a list of several reasons my wife and I love our Blue Cash Preferred card. It perpetually sits at the top of our “Best Grocery Store Credit Card” list. And this is the card to which I charge all my streaming subscriptions. It’s very easy to earn back the $95 annual fee and earn hundreds of dollars in cashback on top of that each year. (And we didn’t have the benefit of a waived annual fee for the first year!)

Here’s a quick breakdown of the card’s standard earnings:

  • 6% cashback at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%)
  • 6% cashback on select U.S. streaming subscriptions.
  • 3% cashback at U.S. gas stations.
  • 3% cashback on transit!
    • Taxis
    • Rideshare
    • Parking
    • Tolls
    • Trains
    • Buses
    • And more
  • 1% cashback on other purchases.
  • $95 annual fee.
  • Terms Apply. See rates and fees.

Final Approach

The waived annual fee benefit is a winner here. The $300 cashback bonus is attractive, too. It’s certainly not as proportional as the offers for, say, the Chase Freedom Unlimited or Chase Freedom Flex. But those cards don’t award 6% on anything. And their grocery benefits are good only for the first year.

The Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express is an excellent cashback card.

I know many of us love points and miles. But cash is much more flexible. And that’s one reason why I truly feel the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express is such a great card.
