We now know Q2’s 5% bonus cash back categories for the Chase Freedom Flex and legacy Chase Freedom cards!

Eligible purchases made at gas stations and home improvement stores will receive 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points (which can be redeemed in several ways, including cashback). Purchases made between April 1 and June 30, 2021 qualify.

Registration is required — so visit ChaseBonus.com now before you forget! You’ll need the primary cardholder’s last name, last four digits of the card, and billing zip code.

Keep in mind that many gas stations have loyalty programs (i.e. fuel points, etc) that stack on top of this bonus.

The 5X is capped at $1,500 in combined purchases across both categories. So the most you can earn on the outset 7,500 points ($75) — unless you transfer those points to a Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, or Chase Ink Preferred and redeem for travel through Chase’s travel booking service. Then they’re multiplied by either 50% (Chase Sapphire Reserve) or 25% (the other two).

Inclusions and Exclusions

Chase has a list here of some merchants that qualify for both categories.

For gas stations, keep in mind that “Merchants that do not specialize in selling automotive gasoline are not included in this category; for example, truck stops, boat marinas, oil and propane distributors, and home heating companies.”

Home improvement store-wise, “Merchants that sell a wide variety of general goods which may include home improvement supplies, for example, warehouse clubs, discount stores, or grocery stores, are not included in this category. Also, merchants that specialize in home furnishings, garden and landscaping supplies are not included.”
