Want to stock up on points for a future trip (or two) while pocketing some statement credit cash?

American Express and Marriott dropped a couple of new offers for their cobranded credit cards today — offering new applicants point bonuses of at least 100,000 bonus points and statement credits!

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card gives new cardholders 125,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points after making $5,000 in eligible purchases within three months of being approved for card membership.

Plus, they can also receive up to $200 in statement credits for eligible purchases at U.S. restaurants made within six months of card membership approval.

On the business side, the Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card offers 100,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points after making $5,000 in eligible purchases within three months of being approved for card membership.

New cardholders also enjoy up to $150 in statement credits for eligible purchases made within three months of card membership approval.

Both offers expire on Wednesday, May 12. Terms apply.

Let’s check out both cards!

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant

The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card (see rates and fees) is a must-have for Marriott enthusiasts. And here’s the interesting thing: its $450 annual fee is actually easy to recoup.

The Brilliant offers up to $300 in statement credits each year for eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels. So that’s three hundred bucks back right there if you utilize restaurants, spas, and other on-property services and businesses during your Marriott stays.

Combine that with the welcome offer’s $200 restaurant credit and you’re $50 ahead for the first year. And that’s before taking into account the 125,000 bonus points (assuming you hit the $5,000 spend within the first three months).

Starting the second year, you’ll receive an annual anniversary night certificate — which is redeemable at properties valued at 50,000 points or under.

That plus the $300 in statement credits for Marriott purchases is at least $450 worth of credits and perks each year.

Other card features:

  • Complimentary Priority Pass Select membership
  • Up to $100 every 4.5 years for Global Entry or TSA Pre√ application or renewal fees
  • 6X points for each dollar spent at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels
  • 3X points for each dollar spent at U.S. restaurants
  • 3X points for each dollar spent booking flights directly with airlines
  • 2X points for each dollar spent on all other eligible purchases
  • 15 elite night credits
  • Trip cancellation, interruption, and delay coverage (minimums and other terms apply)
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • $450 annual fee

Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card

The Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card (see rates and fees) doesn’t have quite as big of a welcome offer as the Brilliant — but its annual fee ($125) is about 350% lower. And it offers more bonus point categories than its Brilliant cousin.

But keep in mind the current welcome offer gives cardholders up to a total of $150 in statement credits for eligible purchases. So that takes care of year one’s annual fee — and then some.

Now is the time to start taking advantage of big welcome offers. They can help you load up on points for whenever you’re ready to resume traveling. And the statement credit offers nullify the first year’s worth of annual fees — and actually help you come out ahead.
