Amazon Prime Day takes place June 21 and June 22 — just a couple of weeks away.

A pair of American Express cards currently offer cashback on Amazon purchases as part of their welcome offers.

Both the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express and Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express earn 20% cashback on Amazon purchases made within six months of being approved for the respective card. A maximum of $200 bonus cashback from the Amazon promotion applies to each card. (To see rates and fees for the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express, please visit this link. To see rates and fees for the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, please visit this link. Terms apply to both offers.)

Awards are earned as Amex Reward Dollars which can be applied as cashback toward statement credit.

(Not sure which Blue Cash card is better for you? Check out my side-by-side comparison of the two products.)

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express carries sort of a triple-threat welcome offer right now. In addition to the Amazon promotion, the card also earns a one-time $150 cashback bonus after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases within six months of approval. Plus, the card’s $95 annual fee is waived the first year. (See Rates & Fees.)

My wife and I have held the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express for several years because it earns 6X Reward Dollars on eligible purchases made at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in annual spending) and select U.S. streaming services. That’s more than enough to cover the $95 annual fee and still come out several hundred dollars ahead. (See Rates & Fees.)

American Express Blue Cash Preferred® Credit Card

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express has no annual fee. (See Rates & Fees.) Its welcome offer is accordingly less exciting than the Preferreds. In addition to the Amazon bonus, it offers a one-time $100 cashback bonus after spending $2,000 in eligible purchases within six months of card membership approval. (See Rates & Fees.)

It earns 3X Reward Dollars on eligible purchases made at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in annual spending) and select U.S. streaming services. Plus, you earn 2X Reward Dollars at U.S. gas stations and select U.S. department stores.

Final Approach

If you want to save money during Amazon Prime Day and enjoy a great cashback card, I highly recommend the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express. It’s a card my wife and I plan to hold forever.

The Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express is certainly a decent option, too — especially given the Amazon promotion and the card’s 3X categories. Those aren’t bad for a no-annual-fee card. (See Rates & Fees.)
