It has been two months since my return from Barbados. I still have as my wallpaper on my desktop PC a shot from early in the morning when the trainers / attendants took the thoroughbreds down for their daily swim in the ocean. That was a nice way to wake up each day I must say! I really enjoyed my 1st ever visit to Barbados. The people, I mean everyone I met, were all fantastic, kind, and wonderful. Maybe everyone is so nice because they don’t ever have to…

BGI or Barbados airport is not all that huge but it does have space for a lounge that services anyone who has Priority Pass that you can get free from a number of cards (even for authorized users) like the non-Delta AMEX Platinum card. The lounge is located at the far end of the concourse upstairs via stairs or elevator. The desk folks were quite friendly and briefly described the club and features. Just inside the lounge there are two public computers and a printer as well as a…

I am really missing Barbados and the amazing clear water of the Caribbean. This round of dives was a bit of a milestone for me as I reached, and passed, the 50 dive mark. Next marks to tick off will be 100 as well as 100 hours of bottom time (I still need to work on my breathing control, I readily admit). I have already popped up a raw unedited GoPro video of part of one of our dives (yeah, it’s really kool btw). It was a neat…

You may not know this (I didn’t) but Barbados, unlike most of the rest of the Caribbean Islands, is not a volcanic island. Put simply it is made up of limestone, sands, sandstone and clay. That means rain, and acid rain, will over time carve out caves. If you are staying either in Bridgetown or like me at the Radisson, it is quite a ways to get to the Harrison’s Caves but I think it is worth the trip. There is a bunch to explore outside the caves including…

I have very few regrets in my life but missing my chance to fly the Concorde is a big one. Yes, it was VERY expensive but before they ended operations they offered some discounted flights and I still kick myself for not taking a flight. After all, how many people on the planet have flown faster than a “speeding bullet”! But I had another regret and that was missing my chance to see the most flight worthy Concorde on the planet when my NCL cruise ship that was scheduled…

The Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados is located a good distance from the airport and reasonably close to Bridgetown, the latter being a long but possible walk. As talked about in the first post in this report, we selected this property because nicer hotels and choices in Barbados can be quite expensive per night and we, naturally, wanted to use points to make the stay as reasonable as possible. We did just that and were quite pleased with our choice. As Club Carlson card holders we were upgraded to a…

I have always wanted to go to Barbados. I tried to get there on an NCL nightmare cruise, but that did not go so well as I posted about on my friend Chris Elliotts blog a while back. I wanted to see the Concorde and I now finally have, but more on that later on in a post of its own. This was my 28th anniversary trip with my wife so I wanted it to be really nice and special. But, being a points enthusiast, I also wanted it…

If you have about 15 minutes today to relax and enjoy my bubbles you can enjoy a sneak peak at what 80* clear Caribbean water is like with Barbados Blue divers! It is time for me to head off for dinner and another run punch. But I have to end with the fact that the sunsets here are just amazing! If you were wondering: my hotel is free on points, my air in 1st class on Delta is free on points, diving is free on points and more – yeah, this is how I roll! #Points #Travel #Winning – Rene

The price on this one sure can not be beat for weekend or weekend runs. The only downside, at least from what I found, is you are needing an overnight in NYC on the way out or back. That DOES add to the cost of the run. Then again, you could maybe tinker and stay a night or two in Barbados instead 🙂 Anyway, with a HT to TFD here are the weekday numbers: Cost $217 5,681 MQMs at 3.8CPM Bookable on Delta.com Again, the weekend numbers are a little higher but well inside our target goal for SkyMiles2015. If you have some hotel points to burn to make that free I sure would consider this one! Gold-Platinum-Reserve Delta SkyMiles® Credit Cards from American Express® Click HERE for more info

Is there a perfect Mileage Run? This one is close IMO. You even get to go have dinner in NYC on the way home (well you do have to overnight but that is what points are for right)! You do have to take a half day off Friday but you are able to collect a (giggle) staggering amount of points all while flying in 1st/business class the whole way. That is a nice way to MR. Here are the numbers: Cost $1,397 in 1st 21,134 MQMs at 6.5 CPM Bookable on Delta.com DM yields an HUGE 38,774 Skymiles per CWSI.net! EDIT: Also PROMO from DL for Caribbean if you pick included locations! (HT reader Tommy) https://www.delta.com/mypromos/acelanding.action?offer=lacpromo Look at it this way, if you are a PM or lower and don’t want to MR to your next level in coach, this is the way to do it! 😉
