Just to stem the flood of questions for those who missed the post last month where I talked about rollover MQMs I will repeat what I said: “Q4) When will my rollover miles post now that the new Medallion year starts on 1FEB each year? Will it be faster? A4) My guess is it will be like last year. By the 15th for most of us. All will have rollover done before 1FEB16 rolls around. Delta has done a good job with this over the past few years. PS don’t forget the Medallion year starts February 1st this year not March 1st like in the past.” So just sit tight folks. The rollover will happen sometime before the end of this month. Now you may be shocked to see your numbers all reset to ZERO this AM as it seems Delta reps may have been giving out some bad advice…

Oh my dearest Delta. You have really lost it this year <-LINK on Delta.com. I mean I thought the prices for buying Delta MQMs in 2014, and in 2013, and in 2012 were bad but almost $3,000 for 10,000 MQMs is just shameful, embarrassing and frankly disgusting. I warned folks this was on the way and that there are better ways to get MQMs (and much cheaper)! Oh I know some foolish folks will jump on the deal when they could simply for $450 for getting a Delta Reserve card (personal or business) pick up 10,000 MQMs with 1st purchase or for $195 and minimum spend pick up 5,000 MQMs from the Delta Platinum card (personal or business). Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card (personal card) <-LINK Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card <-LINK Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express (personal card) <-LINK Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card <-LINK…

If you have been flying all year long, or even worse, were foolish enough to fall for the totally stupid marketing pitch by Delta to buy MQMs at INSANELY over inflated prices this past week (when you can simply get a Delat AMEX Reserve card and get 10k MQMs), and then got the joy of the massive #KeepDescending news that GMs are now the new Silver Medallions this past Monday, should you be eligible for a refund for tossing your money into the streets? Now I already know the answer so this post, like buying MQMs, is really an exercise in futility and pointless but still it is worth sharing. You see so many day in and day out Delta flyers have been, for the past 11 months, dutifully working to retain or EARN their GOLD medallion status for the 2015 medallion flying year. Then, OOOPPSEEEE, Delta “enhanced” the…

If you are still some MQMs short for 2013, that is earning your status for this year 2014, you are either the ultimate procrastinator or something went wonky with your numbers from last year with your Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve cards (i.e. say you forgot that the annual fee does not count as spend or you had a return or something like that). Thus you are still some points short of where you planned to be right now. I am sure at this point you have evaluated the rollover MQMs you ended up with but if that is just not going to work for you then you have until Friday to spend a ridiculous amount of money to buy the MQMs you need as I posted about back in December. This year, look at this post from the first as if you start your spending now it really is…

As 2013 is about to end, there are several things we Delta flyers should make sure we have taken care of. If you have the NON-Delta AMEX Platinum card, as talked about here, you should have taken care of your $200 yearly credit by now. But, also I hope you have taken advantage of another perk of this card that is FREE SPG GOLD status as long as you hold the card. If you have Gold or Platinum SPG do try for your 2013 SPG elite gift that is either extra stay bonus points for a month, or as I have, a big discount for spending points for a stay up to 5 nights at a cat 1-6 hotel (see the T&C here). As a Platinum I got to pick 35% off. Depending on the cost for your stay this could be thousands of points savings! You have 6 months…

What you are seeing is a brilliant approach to rake in a ton of cash from the BUY MQMs from Delta. The airline has truly taken printing money from elite flyers to a totally new level by charging, not just a TON more than last year, but more for some and much less for other. If I were to want to buy 10,000 MQMs as a Diamond Medallion it could set me back $1,995.00 – CRAZY – JUST CRAZY! My wife, as a Gold Medallion, is offered the “bargain basement” price of only $1,495.00 for 10,000 MQMs. – Really? Now the ONLY good thing they have done is, apparently, BLOCK some from buying these vastly and ridiculously over priced MQMs when it would do nothing for as a Skymiles member with NO MQMs. Some will get the message that they are NOT allowed to buy MQMs at any price. You…

With a HT to PM&M my fellow BA blogger for breaking the news, Delta is extending the time limit to buy MQMs until 31JAN2014. Now the site has NOT been updated but I can confirm that the date has been extended. More updates. These MQMs DO NOT count on 2014. They will backdate to your 2013 flying year. Now, say you have 50,000 MQMs on 31DEC2013 and you now buy MQMs, they would rollover into 2014 as anything over your 50,000 but under 75,000 does rollover. But in this latter case getting an AMEX Reserve card would be SO much cheaper and apply on 2014! Clear? The prices are the same as they were in December, that is very expensive but if you are the ultimate of procrastinators and just could not find the time to get the MQMs you needed before the end of the year, you can now…

It seems my run find from yesterday was just the first of an all out fare sale nationwide. Just about every major Delta hub AeroMexico flies from (other than MSP) is included in these deals. The best yields are from NYC and SEA. There really are a ton of options and you can look at premiumcabindeals.com post to seem even more choices and examples. The really fun part about this one is that it is WIDE OPEN into January 2020 so you could book a few of these and take care of your Medallion status for all of 2020 and 2021! But some warnings. This is a Y-UP fare sale into “I” and “D” fare class but Delta has had issues giving you proper credit. Be ready for this. Know you may have to fight! Some of the routes include an overnight in a hotel (or sleep in the airport)…
