I have shown some of the amazing views and video clips of the diving we did this year. It was so relaxing and I just loved my time coming back to the Reef resort again. Please note I was able to lock in early at the old pricing and costs have gone up (like over 50%) so keep this in mind if you want to go for a visit. I really love Grand Cayman Island. From the botanical garden in the middle of the island to the 7 mile beach – there is so much to see and do. But most of all it is just relaxation and time in the sun. Oh, that and spending a ton of time under the water! But this is not Facebook and you can take your own vacations 🙂 What you want to see is just what it cost me using points -…

I am stoked and looking for a good black light dive light and GoPro as I just booked my stay/dive trip for my return to Grand Cayman this winter! We are doing almost a clone of the trip last year, back to the outstanding Reef Resort, and Torutuga Divers (the east end gang not the 7 mile crew)! Rather than return to the Kittiwake we will trade that for a night dive or two as the sunset sail, part of the package, was lame. We already booked the flights on Delta on Hawaiian points and will have to drive to DTW to start the trip, but it will in some ways be worth it to avoid a CRJ to start the trip. I so wish we could get a few larger birds out of SBN. We will see. The car, unlike last time when I thought I was covered by…

While I love my Delta cards and NEED them for my Diamond Medallion status efforts, there is some spend that I cannot ever send off to my Delta cards. One of them, as you see above, is my Comcast cable bill. 5x points, that I can PRE-PAY months ahead btw, are just the best. Also, Lisa got her   50,000 BONUS points   after spending $5000 that is still going on for BOTH (yes you can have BOTH CARDS and get bonus for EACH CARD) the INK Bold and the INK Plus cards from Chase. If you have not got either of these cards yet (don’t try for both at once btw): WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I will soon be at 300k total and have enough to book my return trip now to Grand Cayman this winter and cannot wait to get back there. For the first time EVER…

While I was out Sunday buying points, we went to pick up the photos from our disposable underwater cameras from our Grand Cayman trip. The first thing we learned from this, after one of the three failed and filled with Caribbean water, is that next year we need to upgrade to a good GoPro unit that can do things like you see below (would love feedback if you have one please). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LStXdttFj_o We dove with an outstanding outfit called Tortuga Divers, part of Red Sail Sports. 9 out of 10 of our dives were with the East End group and they were all top notch divers. From Doug (our dive master below), to Fozz & Caz & Dave & Debbie & Yoggi. After two weeks they became like old friends and were not just nice, but very professional and we felt 100% safe in their hands. We did several shallow…

A few years ago, on a cruise, I spent one day on Grand Cayman Island. Lisa & I took the tender off the ship and then headed out to Stingray City, a place where tons of boats come and feed the stingrays in a shallow area. The water was so clear and beautiful that we decided we just had to come back, and for more than just one day this time. Then the search was on to find out how to do this for free on points. I found that Delta has a direct flight from Atlanta to Grand Cayman (ATL-GCM) and I could hop from South Bend to Atlanta direct as well. So, a round trip from SBN-ATL-GCM would only cost me 35,000 Skymiles at low level plus $77 each in taxes and airport fees from the Cayman authorities. SOLD! Lisa & I are currently both PM so we…

Lisa and I have been enjoying our two week vacation on Grand Cayman Island. Currently we are both Platinum Medallion with Delta and booked our low level seats down here for 35k each and our upgrades cleared 5 days out. The flight from Atlanta was on an MD88. This is off season down here and the flight was “medallion light” and since all medallions had been cleared, Delta offered upgrades for sale for $100 per seat but ONLY if you had K+ class tickets that few had or want to pay for as 3 seats went empty. I know this is a HUGE controversial issue for medallions and if you can find proof of a medallion NOT getting a gate upgrade they should have had, and Delta selling the upgrade seat to someone else PLEASE let me know as Delta CORP, and my own experience, shows they only do this…

Delta Air Lines announced yesterday it’s leveraging the SkyMiles loyalty program in order to secure $6.5 billion in funding.

The carrier crated an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary named “SkyMiles IP Ltd., a newly formed Cayman Islands exempted company incorporated with limited liability.” (This might explain why Delta chose the Caymans — in addition to it being a beautiful destination, of course.)

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Kelly Yamanouchi reported the move allows Delta to turn down a CARES Act federal loan. This way, Delta “(avoids) surrendering more control in return for new federal money. It also highlights the airline’s ability to tap capital markets and the continued popularity of credit cards offering frequent flier miles despite a steep drop in air travel.”

Should we worry about SkyMiles?
