The Freddie awards last year in Atlanta was in so many ways  monumentally depressing. For Delta to host the most prestigious frequent flyer event of the year and then to tell bloggers like Brian from TheGate that “if Delta Air Lines did win an award that they were not doing their job correctly” makes me so sad (funny how other airlines and hotels etc. want to win each year). Clearly Delta does not feel they need to reward loyalty anymore as folks will fly Delta anyway. Time will tell if they are right or not. Anyway, I will not be able to attend this year’s Freddie Awards but I doubt I will miss much Delta related. My 99.99% sure guess is that, just like last year, Delta will not even be nominated to win anything (and thus have no shot at winning awards). The only thing Delta has won in…

As an avid reader of Renés blog I have learned the do’s and don’ts in getting the best value from points and miles programs and not just Delta’s. I have obtained value from Membership Rewards Points, SPG points, Flex Perks , and yes even Delta SkyMiles, although as we all know, that ship seems to be sailing faster than a cruise that “Frequent Floater” MJ On Travel likes to take! One of the greatest sins of redeeming your points, and what everyone knows, is to stay clear away from most non-travel redemptions, such as gift cards and merchandise. Why? Because you lose incredible value when you redeem for less than what the points could potentially get you for other uses. Here’s a simple example. Delta $kyRubles are always worth at least 1 cent to me as long as I have a Delta American Express Card. Why? Because I can use…

Man, has this taken a really long time. I have been flying Delta since I was a little kid since I spent some of my late elementary and early high school years in the suburbs just north of Atlanta. Then, for most of my adult life, I have flown Northwest as an SBN or South Bend flyer and now again Delta for many miles after the merger of the two airlines. The result of this was years and years of BIS, or my backside in Delta and Skyteam airplanes, both turbo prop and jets flying everywhere I needed and wanted to go. For most folks who are not living every week on Delta this can take a long time as it did for me. The shot above was my total MQMs or elite points when I started flying from Japan today / yesterday. Today, as you read this (unless something…

This is just too cool. The video above is showing the now 5th annual Delta employees only “jet drag” event raising money for cancer research. Having had many in my family suffer with cancer, this is a charity event I would personally love to take part in and support (and it would be so much fun – right)? If Delta ever offered to allow a group of medallions to compete I would happily donate to take part of this kind of experience. In my recent Sweden trip report I shared with all of you how we get around on the little island on Koster, on 3 wheeled mopeds. When it comes to odd or different things to drive, it’s one of my favorites because it’s fun, but I’ve also always wanted to drive the Chicago Blackhawks Zamboni just because it looks so kool. I can’t honestly say that driving the jet bridge is on my list of odd or different things I’ve always wanted to drive, and don’t you just love it when your flight is greeted by jet bridge training day for the poor struggling gate agent trying to get it lined up to the door again and again and again? Now I could totally see the fun of getting to “push” a Delta 747 around. It would be a bit strange to back it around the airport but wow would…

Welcome to this week’s RenésPoints PodCast episode number 5. I am having a ton of fun with this and I am learning as I go. I am working with the tech stuff and I have to say upfront the audio this week is not perfect but for now this works. Who knows, this PodCast thing may not last anyway but I plan to keep it going for May at least. Now on to this week’s topic, that is, “Just how good is Delta food really? An interview with Noah Mark (Delta fan boy)!” take a listen and see what you think: It is always a blast to talk to Noah. If you have not had the privilege of meeting him you are sooooooo missing out. What a great guy and the definition of unbridled enthusiasm. Anyway, below are some links to what we talked about in the PodCast: All about…

Q1-2016 is in the books. How are you doing on reaching your Delta elite Medallion levels so far (or have you given up this year)? I will be flying only twice next month, once for fun and once for work. But that is April, let’s review March and see if there was anything you missed: ➥ Should mileage runners worry / pay to offset their carbon footprint? Have you used the Delta carbon tool? ➥ An interesting Atlanta SkyMiles Experience golf offer & changes on the way to the Delta site. ➥ Are there times Delta BASIC E fares are a good choice? Even for Medallions? ➥ Review: Delta steak and potatoes dinner 1st class & FEBO meal service update from Delta CORP. ➥ Review: Delta 1st class Meatballs with spinach, ricotta cheese and crostini ➥ KLM Flying Blue is doubling many award ticket prices today – you must call…

Summer is OVER! Well almost over and August was a hot one at least in “Delta land” as I say. The press, even the main stream press, have hammered Delta over so many of their nasty changes to the $kyRubles program and rightfully so. Delta may run a decent,  mostly on-time airline, but if that is all that matters then just end SkyMiles and move on already . There have also been some big IT or information technology issues this month so if you missed any of the “fun” let’s catch up: ➥ Inexperienced “hobbyists” could cost lives one day. The latest Delta “drone” scare! ➥ SHOCKINGLY accurate mainstream press NYT piece about Delta SkyMiles devaluations. ➥ Delta and social media – a DoubleTree Cookies experience by Noah Mark ➥ Have you seen the ridiculous farce in Delta’s August Sky Magazine about SkyMiles & Loyalty? ➥ 1 MILLION MILE SkyMiles…

10,000 SkyMiles – it does not seem like that much right? I mean Delta will now give you 2,500 SkyMiles if your bag is late more than 20 minutes after all. Well this past Sunday I popped up a post for something I have wanted to do for a long time. It was amazing timing that next week many readers will be in Atlanta for either the Freddie’s, or the Delta Points dinner the day after (or both), and when we saw only a few of the 9 open auctions were being bid on for these “SkyMiles Experiences” we took care of that quickly! Myself, and at least 3 other readers, won 10k redemptions to be part of this amazing event. First off it is supporting an amazing cause that is near to my heart, but beyond that how many AVgeek and DeltaGeek people can say they have dragged a…

This is just so kool! I have always wanted to do something like this and I will be on Friday May 1st after the Freddie’s in Atlanta. You, and a friend, can join us and a bunch of Delta folks. Normally I am not a fan of spending my SkyMiles on anything but flying, but in this case I will make an exception because the cause is really great, the event is so neat, and with not all that many bidding, and the bidding ending tomorrow, Monday 2PM ET on all 9 of the auctions, you should be able to get in for a very reasonable amount of points! You will get: “A spot for you and one (1) guest to compete as part of a team of 20 in the Delta Jet Drag at the Delta Technical Operations Center on Friday, May 1st between 9:00am and 10:00am” This will…
