Happy New Year! We’ve been in the new Delta Medallion qualification year for several hours now (some of you in the Far East for an entire day!). I know some people are already racking up Delta Amex spend. Personally, there are some bills from December 2019 I’ll pay today and start knocking out my $25,000 MQD waiver ASAP.

Most (if not all) of us Medallions are eager for our rollover MQM to post. Delta usually doesn’t announce a specific date for when the rollovers will hit our SkyMiles accounts. And it’s not like everyone gets their rollover MQM all at the same time. It’s generally a process spread out over several days.

So when will the rollover MQM period start?

I normally run a post like this each year in December, but the more I think about it and all the changes we are seeing this year to the elite Medallion program it would be wiser to touch on these right now so you have time to plan and make choices with time to act. Plus, I am getting tons of questions every day in e-mail and having this post to point to would be really helpful. Let’s dive in. Choice Benefits Now officially, as of the 13th of October, you can upgrade your +1 who is any elite level or even just a SkyMiles member (important that they join) the big question is should you burn one of your Choice Benefits to gift either Silver or Gold Medallion status to someone you love (or like or work with, etc.). This one is really not as hard as most are…

Delta promised us that starting yesterday Rollover MQMs from 2015 would begin to post to our accounts and a few scattered readers confirmed this. Today there seems to be a new flood of folks getting theirs and I have as well. As you can see, in just a few days, when my latest AMEX spend catches up with Delta I will be Diamond Medallion until 1FEB2018. If you are curious, Delta seems to sweep data from Delta AMEX spend every 3 or 4 days (at least that is the track record this year). Are you a few bucks short of your Delta AMEX card spend totals? My fellow BA blogger Grant has a nice post up where you can follow and get $1500 in spend done and when you consider the value of a SkyMile being at a minimum 1 cent each you are coming out ahead buying them and…

I thought about putting this post up on “Rookie Wednesday” this week, but since so many of these points are directed firmly at elite flyers, who don’t “consider” themselves rookies, better to put it up on the most viewed day of the week, that is, Monday posts. Take a look at the screen shot above from my “My Delta” page on Delta.com. No doubt yours looks somewhat similar to mine in regards to the totals. That will be changing soon. How soon? As talked about before, Delta has informed us by the end of the month of January. Plenty fast enough. There really are a bunch of issues so many ask about and worry about and rightfully so. Delta and AMEX do not have a FAQs page that address many of our little concerns. Like what? When I have reached [whatever] elite status plus MQD spend or exemption, when will…

Just to stem the flood of questions for those who missed the post last month where I talked about rollover MQMs I will repeat what I said: “Q4) When will my rollover miles post now that the new Medallion year starts on 1FEB each year? Will it be faster? A4) My guess is it will be like last year. By the 15th for most of us. All will have rollover done before 1FEB16 rolls around. Delta has done a good job with this over the past few years. PS don’t forget the Medallion year starts February 1st this year not March 1st like in the past.” So just sit tight folks. The rollover will happen sometime before the end of this month. Now you may be shocked to see your numbers all reset to ZERO this AM as it seems Delta reps may have been giving out some bad advice…

First things first. A number of folks have Gold Medallion status due to being gifted Gold status from a Diamond as a Choice Benefit. This post is not directed at you since you could be starting at ZERO MQMs for the year. No, this is for those of you who have earned the status via MQMs and MQD spend or by becoming MQD exempt with spend on your Delta AMEX card. First some background for this series: Considering your MQM balance & strategies to consider Should I go for Delta Diamond Medallion Status Should I go for Delta Platinum Medallion Status Should I go for Delta Gold Medallion Status Should I go for Delta Silver Medallion Status If you are Gold right now, you should really think about Platinum. But for many who are Gold you fly just enough to make that level or with help from rollover and a…
