Note: I will be on vacation most of this week with my buddies in northern Michigan so I will have limited access to the blog and e-mail. I will be sure to follow up soon! Sigh. I mean, deep sigh. One day a Ph.D. doctoral thesis on how to take an HVC, that is a high value customer, and infuriate them to the point of an embolism. It would not be a hard subject to consider as Delta’s schizophrenic changes to the SDC, or same day change, rule is a perfect topic to review. First let me show you the latest update I have from Delta regarding my query to the changes that just hit this past week. I was told: Changes to Origin and Destination are not permitted Changes from connection to nonstop are not permitted Changes from nonstop to connection are permitted Oh joy – just perfect. In…

Delta today posted yet another change back toward the direction of the old rules, but only a little bit. Apparently those paying for 1st class tickets in any 1st class fare class complained enough that a 1st class ticket should not have all the same SDC restrictions as a coach ticket. They were right. There are some big gotchas as seems always to be the case nowadays with Delta. Notice those of us who get 1st class upgrades are NOT under the same rules; we are under the rules of our original purchase fare class so if we want to change there has to be space in our face class or lower as, uh, before 2.0, that is the current rules, uh, the rules after the 1st change, but before this change, that is not a change for us. Clear? Ugg – (all this inside 1 year btw). So can…

As I finish an “extra” mileage run, that I really did not want to take, I have once again successfully done an SDC to get into first class on a transcon flight yesterday. Just how does one do this? First you need to know the rules changes mid April this year. In the past, you just had to have a seat in the same cabin of service to get a change. Now the rule is the same class of service or lower. Most feared this would be very very hard. I have not had an issue thus far (it could be a perk of DM i.e. bending the rules but no reps have said anything yet). Also know anything booked PRE-rule change you can get under the old rules or under the new rules your choice so you can work it maybe. The end result is if you are on…

Via Delta Air Lines rep at FlyerTalk, DwayneSkyMiles, we get the above latest update after the last massive change. This is some refreshing news that GM+ will not get “dinged” with the $50 fee. Many HVC i.e. those who spend a ton and fly Delta a ton, have departed Delta over this. It was a BAD move and these changes soften things a bit, but the fare class component is still firmly in place! Will this be enough to get those back who bolted from our airline to another? One thing this DOES show is money talks. Make HVC mad enough they will say enough is enough and clearly this cost our airline! I look forward to your input on this readers and what you think. It will also be nice to have more time to change now (if you can find it) but is this and just waiving the…

Delta had to get these changes out to all their personnel, so information about the update was “leaked” to FlyerTalk. In today’s instant information age, it is very hard to keep secrets. Now the changes. Here is a chart of what has changed: So, good or bad? Medallions are a bit “jumpy” lately as Delta has been eroding our benefits and making it harder next year to quality. Delta is selling this as an enhancement to the SDC program and if you are a non-medallion it is great for you as you now get a chance at SDC. If you are a GM+, overall this is mostly a downgrade since, depending on the change, you may have to pay, not be in the right fare class, or now have a bunch more competition from regular flyers and elites (all in the same fare class). I am also confident we will…

I wanted to pop up a quick post about the rumored SDC changes said to be on the way April 16th. I am working to try to get some CORP confirmations, but often times I get the standard “can not comment on planned changes”. Other times I do get confirmations I can share. I will advise when I can. First, what is SDC? You can look HERE what Delta.com currently has to say about the perk. Basically, Same Day Change, sometimes called same day confirmation, in rookie terms it is changing to a earlier or later flight or flights to get home sooner or later or even to get a better route (either more direct if you want or LESS direct if you want to earn more MQM’s or Skymiles) on the same day you are already scheduled to fly. Some use this perk a bunch others don’t even know…

You may not want to spend Sunday the 30th in Oklahoma, but if you do not feel like donating an insane amount of money to Delta to keep your status, and you live near MSP, this could be a cheaper last minute 2018 Delta elite mileage run. If you have not had the Delta Amex Reserve personal or business card you are just about out of time to pick that up and get 10,000 MQMs for the non-waved $450 first year fee (plus you get into the Sky Clubs for a year free when you fly Delta)! Yes, if you apply fast and get spend done, you should be able to still get the cards THIS YEAR 2018 for 2019! Keep in mind I like to see a 1st class run under 8CPM so this one, this late in the year, is not bad at all! Also, there may be…
