I love a good points deal. You may recall that I blogged that all I needed was one single stay (at a somewhat inflated rate) with IHG under the old IHG Accelerate promotion to collect 40,000 points. Now I needed to stay at a hotel in April so I would have had to pay one way or the other (or use points). I guess you could look at it that I “paid” about 1/3 of a cent per IHG point and that is a good value to me. But I had an issue. You see the points did not all show up. Gosh, I hate it when this happens. I reached out to IHG on twitter and they at first said I had not completed at least 3 of the tasks to get the points (but I knew I had). They then checked again and confirmed I had done what…

Well I am back home safe and sound. It is nowhere near as nice here in South Bend, Indiana as it was in Barbados and I am feeling cold and depressed that the white outside my window is not sand! So to make myself feel better I am giving away to FIVE (5) winners each two (2) HOOU or “Have One On Us” Delta drink / amenity coupons as well as a set of Delta headphones via Random.org later on today. EDIT: Friday 9PM ET. Enter as often as you wish, but each comment must be different i.e. no cut-n-paste. Share with us anything you like about Delta. That is, what do you think will happen to SkyMiles this year or the Medallion program. Or do you think the FAs will go union this year or pilots will end up on strike (or not). Just anything on your mind about…

Those of us who live in the United states can join the Skyteam Flying Blue (FB) program. I strongly suggest this for a number of reasons. First off, the perks as it can help with bag fees (50% discount vs non-member on intra European flights). Beyond that, if you happen to be flying a Delta business class award ticket, you may just get some FB points if you enter in that number in your reservations. Well as most readers know, a number of us were kicked out of Delta’s SkyBonus business rewards program this year due to not having 5 employees who flew at least once, at any price, on Delta. Yep, it did not matter if you spend $50,000 with Delta as a sole proprietor – Delta hates small business and you are out. So why not give Flying BlueBiz a shot. But there were some problems with this…

As I blogged about the promo that is in fact open to everyone has posted now to my SkyMiles account (now that my Delta AMEX card statement has generated). #TRAVELTIP: I called and had my statement close date set for the 1st of the month and you can request this or any other date in the month you want. All I did was stay at an SPG hotel, on points naturally, but paid for my only expense to stay there that was a $5 tip I had charged to my room from my complimentary breakfast as an SPG Platinum. So I thus triggered the promo by meeting two of the requirements on $5 charge (an SPG charge and a Delta AMEX card charge). I personally value my SkyMiles at 1.5-2 cents each so I made a few bucks on the promo. Not life changing but simple is good right? The…

Well I really should have expected nothing less than the near worthless service SkyBonus has provided during my time in the program. As readers know, I was targeted with a survey from Delta SkyBonus promising me 10,000 bonus points for taking part. However, it seems Delta Air Lines is going to back out on that promise of points for my feedback. I reached out to inquire about the points and was told: “Dear Rene De Lambert, Thank you for contacting SkyBonus. I forwarded your feedback to the SkyBonus team. Unfortunately at this time, your account will close on Thursday. We are not awarding the survey points before then. If your company grows in the future and meets the two minimum requirements of having 5 unique employee travelers and spending $5,000 per year please contact us. Regards, SkyBonus Service Center” Well that is just swell, Delta. Thanks so much for standing…

Oh I love to hate Delta SkyBonus and am so happy they are kicking me, and so many other small business owners who are loyal to Delta, out on 1JAN16. But this latest change just takes the cake. Notice the PDF’s of the OLD award chart from last month and the new award chart Delta has, before the new year, jumped the redemption for Sky Club award by 25%. As is almost always the case, no notice to us loyal flyers nor did they wait until 2016 to make the latest devaluation. Thanks Delta, Keep Descending worthy change. I mean we all should know if we have issues they are not going to get addressed or fixed until after the 1st of the year as you can see from an automated email I got from SkyBonus. Disgusting. I am going to spend my final 30k for HOOU coupons and if…

I don’t know where to begin. I am so sickened by Delta SkyBonus that I just (almost) have no words to type. I think Delta’s anti-small business attitude is just so sad. Small business folks, who maybe fly Delta each and every week, driving this economy forward, no matter how much they spend with Delta will get KICKED OUT in a matter of weeks from Delta SkyBonus. Thanks Delta. Way to support small business owners. Anyway, it seems they want some feedback on what “we” think. Oh, the best part of this [targeted] bonus deal? It will take  up to 8 weeks to get the points. That is well AFTER they have kicked me out of this Delta small business program. Really Delta? (deep sigh). So for now let me just show you all the slides and you can see what you think. Click on any of them for a…

Welcome to a weekly feature on the Renés Points blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature. The above is an ad for SkyBonus that I have fixed for Delta and the notice most of us got via email over the past few weeks reminding us that we are soon going to be dumped out of the program no matter how much we spend with Delta. I decided to write and voice my dissatisfaction that the changes were not small business friendly. My response from Delta was: “Dear Mr DeLambert, Thank you for your response. If the dollar amounts are not matching up, it is because those tickets are missing from the Skybonus statement.…

Some Delta e-mails just floor me. Take a look at the latest one above from Skybonus. They arrogantly tell me: “We appreciate your continued loyalty to Delta, and as a Skybonus member, we want to ensure you get the most out of your participation in the program.” No, Skybonus team, you don’t. I am already so disappointed with the program. Not with the rewards but the change early this year that unless you have 5+ employees flying at least one flight each you are out of the program on 1JAN2016. In other words Delta no longer sees any value from small business with 4 employees or less no matter how much they spend with Delta. Very short sighted IMO! The PR e-mail asks me: “We noticed that your account activity has declined compared to last year.” Well that one is not hard to answer – just look at the destruction…

Delta’s Skybonus program has some new promotions (that may be targeted) to and from JFK. This got my attention after the new implementation of the NO Diamond complimentary upgrades  the “sorta secret” upgrade program ended last month. The bonus, that you have to sign up for before you buy the tickets, are based on the fare class of the ticket. Notice the T&C inside the promo for the 3x and 2x bonus deals: “Now your company can earn triple SkyBonus points on Level 1 fares for each purchased ticket between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles, CA (LAX) or San Francisco, CA (SFO). Level 1 – defined as Delta fare classes: F, P, A, G, J, C, D, I, Z, W, Y and B” and “Now your company can earn double SkyBonus points on Level 2 fares for each purchased ticket between New York (JFK) and Los Angeles, CA (LAX)…

If you have not taken a peek at your upcoming Delta flight over the next few months you may want to now. Yesterday was another round of “Schedule Change Saturday” changes (see Essential tab E8 post). Why should you care? Delta may or may not e-mail you about the changes to your flights. Here is why you should care: Seats may be not what you picked Jet type may have changed Connection times may be illegal now A flight may be flown by another carrier Your flight may be eliminated Or a number of other pesky little issues. Many of these can be really frustrating, but this is why it is so important for you to log on NOW and see what kind of mess Delta has imposed upon you. The “perfect” seat you picked may be gone OR, even if the flight did not change much, Delta may have…

The other day, acually the SAME DAY as the latest in a never ending string of crushing SkyMiles devaluations, I got this kind reminder that Delta HATES small business owners. No? You bet they do. Take a look. You see even if you spend $100,000 flying Delta this year, and are part of Skybonus, they are going to kick you out at the end of this year. You must have at least 5 people who work for you who will fly Delta at least once to stick in the program after 31DEC15. I really appreciate Delta reminding me of these facts on the same day I learned all the other news that made me want to reach for an air sickness bag. Ah well. Then today, I get a helpful (and maybe targeted) reminder that Delta has a bunch of new markets that I can get bonus Skybonus points for…

In case you have not noticed, Delta has spiffed up the graphics on the Skybonus website. Not much new as far as functionality, but the info is a bit simpler to see. These changes are good and needed since so many folks may still have well over a year’s worth of missing Skybonus points or may have even been incorrectly kicked out of the program due to missing flights that never posted. But on to the question of the day – why does Delta not also hide the Skybonus charts after the devious move of hiding the SkyMiles award charts? I am really not trying to be silly about this. After all, we all know the online SkyMiles award booking page is beyond broken so we can not trust it. With Skybonus we have to call but why not just have them tell us how many points whatever it…
