Let’s start this one with the news about Delta dumping the friendly, but hard to find, 24 hour all you can visit pass from the Sky Club lineup. You see before, you could, for $50 (see photo below), get a pass and come and go all you like to as many clubs as you like for a day. And not just the day you travel but even the next day if your visit fell inside the 24 hours since you entered the first club. Very useful and I would imagine most only used it once or twice anyway over the time period it was valid. My fellow blogger Brian Cohen had a very nice post about the change and his feelings can be summed up with: ” …so would I pay $59.00 to visit a Sky Club for only one time? The answer is no.” I would go even farther…

I thought this Sunday would be a good time to have a catch up about all the things that you may have missed that are either changing or have already changed recently with Delta and their partners. The first one, as I hinted at a while back after my visit with Delta people before the Freddie awards, was that big changes are coming to the Delta Sky clubs. You can expect to see COMPLIMENTARY craft beers at many of the Skyclubs throughout the USA as well as improved wine choices (hello Malbec) and many other subtle changes that will really be nice especially if you like a quality drink in the club. Many may say, like most things Delta as of late, that this is an improvement by returning to the quality days of years gone by. I would not disagree with that but an improvement is an improvement so…

Welcome to a weekly feature on the Renés Points blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature. Are Delta Diamond Medallions ever “rookies”? I mean they can qualify by flying 140 segments a year. How can that kind of flyer ever be considered a rookie? Well let me tell you there are more than a few Platinums and Diamond Medallions who either forget to choose (shudder) their “Choice Benefits” or frankly are not making the best choice possible for themselves. On this post I wanted to look at one that I have been told by so many they have selected as their second Diamond choice after 1st choosing Global Upgrade certs (clearly one of…

Normally I hate these kinds of targeted promotions, and even posting them, but this could be a nice perk for some in the NYC area if you qualify (as you can see my wife did NOT living in Indiana). Now Gold Medallion status is not all it once was, and I would NOT: “purchase and fly one qualifying, paid Delta One™ (fare classes J/C/D/I/Z) roundtrip transoceanic flight offering Delta One service during the Promotional Period” to keep my Gold status unless my company was paying for the ticket. There are MUCH cheaper ways to get Gold Medallion status like getting a personal and business Delta AMEX Reserve cards and spending at least $60,000 on one of them. Then you are Gold medallion with 50,000 total MQMs without even flying. However, the two months of Skyclub individual membership could be very nice if you are going to be flying for the…

$29 to bring my wife into a $kyPub (i.e. Skyclub) is just CRAZY! Delta really tossed AMEX under the bus with the high end Delta Reserve card by cutting the perk of being able to bring a guest or your family into the club last May 1st. I have a feeling it has cost AMEX membership in the card. My fix, as you can see, is by simply getting my Lisa an add-on non-Delta Platinum American Express card and she gets in free plus so many other perks like the Priority Pass card so we can, when in Atlanta, rather than go to the $kyPub go to “THE CLUB at ATL” that has so many better choices than the $kyPub. Back in October last year I talked about all the new food choices that are on the way for the Detroit airport (DTW). As you can see the Gorden Biersh…

Earlier today I reviewed my latest most successful winter Ski trip to Utah and how, after all was said and done, I actually ended up earning for the trip. Before my departure home I had some time to visit the SLC Skyclub located just to the left when you walk through security T2. One nice thing I really like is that there is an XpressSpa right outside the door of the club. I mean you can put your name on the list, go in for a refreshment, then pop back out when it is your turn. The club is really nice sized. When we were there early in the morning it was relatively empty, but that did not last. If that is the case be sure to look at all the spots you can find room including behind the help desk. One small drawback of this club is I find…

The above are a collection of some of the best current card offers from Chase, Barclays & Citi. However, unlike AMEX & others, these three banks do not want to support the Delta Points blog – directly. That is, I can not offer you a direct link that supports this blog. I can, however, point you to THIS page on the blog should you want to email me for suggestions about these offers and how to support the blog. Yes, it is a real pain to take this extra step rather than just CLICK another blog’s links. But that is the point of today’s SWAG Saturday question. But first the rules. By commenting below you are agreeing you have read the RULES for the drawing you can find HERE. Then, for a shot at a Skyclub pass that is good for a year, a HOOU coupon, a very nice surge…

Sorry for the delay in not posting last week’s winner of the SWAG Saturday drawing for two $50 Delta Skyclub 24 hr passes. If you have not been paying attention the Midwest has been dealing with some weather issues and it has impacted my travel a bit. Now, since I am in full 2015 mode things are working out very nicely and I will be sure to post about that later. But for now, per Random.org, our winner is #100 that is Shane K. who said: “Looking into applying for a personal Delta card…” Thanks for your input and for supporting the blog and I will contact you soon to get your prizes on the way ASAP. I will tell you flying Delta during 2015 has been a monumental shift. Everything is different and I cannot wait to share with you all my findings. For now, it is time for…

I don’t know, maybe very few want to go to $kyClubs any more and enjoy $kyGrub. There were under 100 who took part in this week’s SWAG Saturday. Maybe for the next week I need to give away two passes tomorrow? Anyway, there were many questions asked. I covered most of them in the post HERE. But I did not get to today’s winner #96 that is Aaron who asks: “I am really enjoying your blog. Do you think the dropping gas prices (and rising airline profits) will impact perks to medallions?” – Aaron Well first off congratulations for winning – I will email you soon and get your prize on the way. Next, to answer your question,  the only impact lower gas will have is to Delta’s bottom line. They are only going to lower prices or impact medallions due to competition against another airline and gas has nothing…

A Miami Mileage Run: The VIP lounge at MIA & positioning flight A Miami Mileage Run: The run to Phoenix A Miami Mileage Run: The Sheraton MIA & time in Miami A Miami Mileage Run: The Delta Skyclub in MIA A Miami Mileage Run: The totals & the flight home During my time between my positioning flights and the start of this run I went to the VIP Lounge via my Priority Pass that I got free with my non-Delta Platinum AMEX card (A card I am truly coming to love). It was a nice lounge with decent treats and good wines at no charge. Before my return home I made time to check out the Skyclub that is conveniently located near the Delta gates, just left after you proceed through security. As you can see from the map, and the photo, the entrance is on the lower level while…
