Every day some travel news headlines catch my attention. Some are from Delta and some are just of travel interest, but all are ones I think you will want to see. Let’s take a look at today’s: Therapy duck helps woman with PTSD stay calm on airplanes Hartsfield-Jackson surpasses its record for guns caught at checkpoints ExpertFlyer Now Includes 100% SkyTeam Award Coverage Earn More Points with the Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and SPG Credit Cards! …and the cuts keep on coming. You cannot leave the Delta SkyMiles team with idle hands and time to kill as if you do you know what is next – devaluations or as they call them “enhancements”! Now have a cut to what many consider one of the most valuable rewards you can pick that is 40,000 bonus SkyMiles for reaching your Delta Million Miler level (whatever that may be). I chose not to pick the SkyMiles for my Million Miller gift as I have a ton of them and am working on spending them down to zero, but you may have been “this close” to making it to the next MM level and may have been counting on the points for some award. Then again, with all the recent devaluations to SkyMiles it is hard to keep up what a SkyMile really is worth. Expect more cuts, sorry, enhancements,…

Points, points, points. So many points. There has been so much going on that it is hard to keep up. The first massive news is both amazing and super disappointing. Let me put this simply that the 100,000 points (after spend) Chase Sapphire Reserve card is one of the if not the best travel card period. The problem is if you have applied for more than 5 credit cards (any, not just from Chase) you are likely to be flat out turned down. Anyone who has not got 5 cards over the past 2 years should seriously consider this card as it is a real blockbuster. If you look at BANK card links you will find all the   BANKS   that I have links for. I appreciate your support of the blog if you go for this card. If you have applied for and received more than 5 cards over…

There has been a ton of news hitting us in the past day or so and the flood of emails is pouring in about the new Delta One seats coming a number of years from now on select routes. Gotta say the seats look flat out amazing and can’t wait to try it. I bet it will cost 1 million SkyMiles to fly it (oh wait some flights in D1 almost cost that much now). With a big HT to The Points Guy we are learning that AMEX is upgrading the SEA or Seattle Centurion lounge. That is good as it is a joke right now and the only Centurion I would avoid unlike the amazing ones in Centurion in Dallas or the Centurion in Miami with a SPA. We can only hope the upgraded SEA one also has a SPA as well. If you are looking to buy some…

I was really, really looking forward to this return trip to the PGA Championship after last year’s visit on SPG points to Whistling Straights. On Thursday, day one of the tournament, that cost just 10,000 points but this year we had tickets for Friday for 15,000 points (each day will run you 5k more to go). (OFFER EXPIRED) NOTE: STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST CREDIT CARD FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS NO LONGER AVAILABLE Still, no matter what day you go the value is impressive as the redemption is for two people to attend and if you are a golf or other sports fan using Starpoints in this way for “Moments” can be a reason alone to hold these cards. But more on that in a bit. First I had to get to New Jersey and more especially EWR. I used bump vouchers to fly Delta and overnight on Marriott points.  After that it…

There has a been so much “stuff” going on in the past 24 hours that it really is much simpler to put it all into one catch all post. The first news is that CLEAR, as we know, is expanding and with the latest CLEAR news DTW is on the short list with Delta HUB SEA already up and running now. As long as there is PreCheck with the CLEAR lanes you are in great shape. I am somewhat surprised, given Delta has now purchased 5% of CLEAR that ATL was not on the “short list” if you will to get CLEAR lanes already. Next up there is a sweet offer from AMEXtravel via your “AMEX Offers to You” when you log into AMEX. Keep in mind if you happen to have this targeted for more than one card (like me) and you want to use it on a number…

I earn a TON of points from new card bonus deals. The current Delta card offers are just amazing and you should be considering them before they end in a little over a week or so. I got in and have already completed my spend and should see the bonus points on my very first statement. #Winning. I also am happy to take part in promotions where I have to do “X, Y & Z” to get a ton of bonus points when the math works out in my favor. But I hate when things go sideways and I have to spend extra time to get what was promised by a company. But right now SPG on their Four Points, Aloft & Elements brands is having a deal that seems sweet. It is simple as the savings is upfront, that is, all I have to do is book with THIS…

Man, I had a blast last year at Whistling Straights. SPG did a bang up job for us for just 10,000 SPG points. The day was just about perfect, the course was amazing and the play was stunning. Oh and the hospitably tent was most impressive with free drinks (including adult beverages) as well as breakfast, snacks and then lunch/dinner. All was included for the meager cost of 10k SPG points. Impressive and one of the best redemptions I have ever had for my points. NOTE: STARWOOD PREFERRED GUEST CREDIT CARD FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS NO LONGER AVAILABLE Well I can tell you I am going back this year with a visit to EWR. My friend and I have successfully redeemed 15,000 SPG points for a full day of course access (for us both) as well as once again access to an air conditioned SPG suite with all the goodies included.…

With less that 24 hours to go before the highest ever SPG AMEX offer is about to expire so it is time to act now if you are going to go for either of these amazing offers as it is the APPLY BY date not your APPROVED BY date that matters for both: Both are the highest new card bonus, after minimum spend, that AMEX has had on these cards and a full 5,000 points higher than last year’s offer and 10,000 points higher than the standard offer that will be back in place some time tomorrow. Should you go for this card (either the personal, business OR both)? Just about everyone in the frequent flyer community agrees that SPG points are the most valuable and versatile travel points you can collect. The good news is that it is seeming less and less likely that your SPG points will be…

Saved by the Chinese (how many times have you said that?)! Unless you have been on vacation on the moon this past week, you now know what once looked like a done deal, that is, the buyout of SPG by Marriott, is now unlikely to happen. I am not an expert on these kinds of mega deals but from all I have seen I doubt Marriott will want SPG at these (or higher) priced levels. I blogged just a few weeks back that I am done chasing status this year. I was poingant about Hyatt as well as SPG when I said: “The point is, if I am going to have to beg, borrow or cajole my way to get something as a top elite, why not just make due with mid status that means I will have to do that exact same thing?” Has any of that truth changed…

IF if you have ever in your lifetime received the new card bonus for either card, you cannot get it again. But is there any kind of workaround? Maybe. I say maybe because it is not whether or not you have had the card before that matters its whether AMEX says you have had the card before! I have a post detailing how you can get American Express to tell you ALL the cards THEY say you have had. You will then have proof that you can do a screen shot with and show whether or not THEY say that you have received or had a card before.  That means even if you potentially have in the past held an SPG card you may be able to get this HUGE new card bonus again if they say you did not hold it in the past! Anther advantage of doing this…

My guess is most of you who have an AMEX card followed the advice and quickly and simply got $15 off a $60 gift card from Amazon this week. I did, and now I am going to spend it (sorry, not giving it away on SWAG Saturday). One of the things I am picking up is the amazing deal (yeah 72% off retail) on a HUGE capacity power brick that is now way smaller than it used to be [UPDATE: above deal is over, however HERE is a similar deal still LIVE <-LINK). We all need power when we travel and this puppy just works! Also be aware there are other sweet black Friday deals as well! The next deal is a 100% “pass” for me, but with a HT to Frequent Miler here on BoardingArea. It seems, after Hyatt’s VERY successful twitter effort to snag SPG elites who are…

The first three days of this past week I spent on my last mileage run of the year. I was joined by five other Diamonds who also wanted to have a “fun run” and add to their MQM balance. I thought I would share some of the interesting tid-bits I picked up along the way. Now if you want a blow by blow of the run, just pop over to John from LaptopTravel’s blog for his view on the run (btw, John has now joined the blog to help us find sweet Elite Mileage Runs and maybe pop up a guest post now and then). First some data points. One of my flights was very oversold (love that) and I can confirm what has been reported on twitter that right now, with Delta, $1000 is the MAX bump voucher they can give out (it was previously $1300). However, know they…
