I thought this Sunday would be a good time to have a catch up about all the things that you may have missed that are either changing or have already changed recently with Delta and their partners. The first one, as I hinted at a while back after my visit with Delta people before the Freddie awards, was that big changes are coming to the Delta Sky clubs. You can expect to see COMPLIMENTARY craft beers at many of the Skyclubs throughout the USA as well as improved wine choices (hello Malbec) and many other subtle changes that will really be nice especially if you like a quality drink in the club. Many may say, like most things Delta as of late, that this is an improvement by returning to the quality days of years gone by. I would not disagree with that but an improvement is an improvement so…

I can not tell you all the details but I very much trust my source that I have with this news regarding the Suntrust Skymiles Debit card (not my link btw). The basics are this. 1) Soon (i.e. before summer is over) you will not be able to get the card 2) Existing card holders can keep their card and earn! I do not blog much about the card because I like to blog about non-targeted and open to all offers. This card, officially, you have to live in AL, AR, FL, GA, MD, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV and Washington D.C. to be able to get the card. Sure there are reports of those outside these states getting them but there are also an equal number of reports of those getting their accounts shut down. This card can be a nice way to earn more Skymiles. Bottom line…

Gosh the mass emails last Friday were hard to take. My wife got hers first and I thought I was going to be ok. Yeah, well, an hour later I got the nasty-gram as well. I will not lie to you, it hurt. It stung. This was such a simple way to dump VDGCs without any fear or any issues. The bird had been alive for so long it was hard to think of it as the one above – ever. Clearly BB immortality was not in the DNA. But when you think about it, this was not the first of the super simple ways to make frequent flyer points that has gone away. There have been other methods that were either nearly as simple or even better than BB. Like what? Let’s take a look. Years ago you could buy travelers checks with a credit card. Talk about one…

Airline travel has gone from a time to “dress your best” to folks flying in pajamas. Airline travel used to be dreamy and exciting but has been transformed to now being a drudgery (for many) and to be “gotten over with” as quickly as possible. But something important has been lost and all the cuts Delta has made is much to blame for this. I still LOVE LOVE LOVE to fly. I am at home at the airport and in the air. I love lounges and everything about travel. I daydream about travel. My heart still quickens each time I even SEE a 747 no matter whose logo is on the side of the jet. Maybe you feel the same way as I do. Part of all of this is the experience of business and 1st class travel. It is what dreams are made of and the reason for points.…

I suggested at the end of last May’s Newsletter that June would just maybe be a bit more quiet as Delta may not have time to break too much more in SkyMiles land, but they did find time to destroy one more tool in our quest to find LEVEL 1 seats (in May, but we did not find out till June). Notably the Sky Clubs improved big time this month (about time). Let’s take a look at what you may have missed from June in Delta land: ➥ Have small Delta vouchers to burn? Think two one-ways vs. one round trip ticket? ➥ NEVER book RT Delta award tickets departing outside USA – how to lower the fees. ➥ Some big changes coming to Delta Points – the “Mileage Run” blog! ➥ $30 Lyft referral promotion returns for new users. Worth it or expire too quick? ➥ I just gave…

As I blogged about a few weeks ago, changes are happening in the Skyclubs and this is a good thing. Once Delta dumped free beer, well other than SkunkyBeer, it marked a slow and steady decline in quality of offerings in the clubs and then on 1MAY14 the ridiculous $29 upcharge to bring a guest into the clubs even if you had the high end Delta AMEX Reserve card or the non-Delta AMEX Platinum card. Even Diamonds now no longer can guest folks in, including their families. So what has changed? The fees are the same but at least things, from a product standpoint, are getting much better. The VERY cheap house wines are being upgrade from a basic Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to a number of choices. Take a look: A complimentary Malbec and Pinot Noir are HUGE upgrades in flavor choices. The price point for the bottles is…

I have to say I overall had a good impression of Sandeep Dube when I met him at Atlanta. He was at just about all of the events including the Freddie Awards. He listened. Really listened. I respect that, but as with all things Delta actions speak much more than anything else. The above was part one of the e-mail that Diamonds got. You may have gotten a slightly different one depending on your status level, but first let’s see what this one said. The same info was basically repeated on the lower half of the e-mail. But is the marketing verbiage true or did it make you giggle? The reaction from a number of readers was “rolling eyes”. I get them, but it depends also where you are and how much you are willing to game Delta at their own game if you will. Let’s look at the main…

I have an unwritten rule I always “try” to follow. I don’t blog about deals that only targeted people can get. I know as a Delta elite it bugs me to see an offer everyone else seems to be able to get but I cannot. Also I do not like the one’s where maybe you will get points and you are going outside the rules to do it. If you get called on it, it may just cost you money and you get no points. There are many popular blogs that talk about these deals anyway. But with this one I feel I really should at least mention it as it is a good deal for a bunch of people. The break down of the deal is this. Please only try to do this if you meet the terms. If not, you are own you own! It will cost you…
