I have been thinking over this post all day long. Ever since Alaska Air (AS) put up the scathing “rant” on their company blog about why they did the shameful acts they did I have been thinking about what to say. I mean I really think I said it all yesterday and stand by each word. Heck even online papers have started to run with my quotes from the post. What I don’t want to do is put up a rant myself today (nor was yesterday’s post a rant). But what I do and must talk about is the utter ridiculousness of the statement put out by AS. Overnight the AS twitter folks, at some point, gave up the battle and the company had most of the day to formulate a well written response and they instead come out with the above! Amazing. I make no bones about the fact…

You have got to be kidding me. How, dearest Delta, can you keep cutting and cutting and making things worse and worse for us. Notice THIS link to the “Way back Machine” for Delta.com about “Award Ticket FAQs” from last year. Now, take a look at the current one on Delta.com that seems to have changed on or about 22 MAY 2015. Yep, a simple  YES  to  NO  and we potentially have yet one more MASSIVE unannounced Delta #KeepDescending devaluation in our efforts to simply find an award ticket. After all, we are clearly all about spending as few SkyMiles as possible for an award even though Delta is making it REALLY hard for flyers by often times charging them 2 or 3 times what a ticket should cost. The web site is just about worthless for booking and you have to do the work yourself to find seats (see…

Tuesday night I was invited to attend the private launch party for the very impressive new Delta Sky Club in the B concourse at ATL Atlanta airport. It really is a very nice open space to enjoy while waiting for your flight and I think I will find myself spending much time there. Present at the event were all the “who’s who” from Delta including the CEO, Ed Bastian. I had not met Mr. Bastian yet so it was a treat and a chance, as a Delta frequent flyer, to ask the head of the airline I fly so much to please fix something for me/us. Now your head may be spinning thinking of all the things I could ask him to fix for us. What would be the one thing you would ask? Would it be “fix SkyMiles”? Not going to happen and too broad and the head of…

So the kids are all now back in school (well someone’s kids are anyway) and the leaves have started to turn amazing colors (unless you live where they don’t ever). This also means it is time for you to take stock and plan for 2017 to both save money and to be where you want to be as a Delta flyer. First the simple one. Well, maybe simple or maybe a painful one. Where will you end up on the elite medallion ladder. Are you OK dropping down or do you want to plan for a large rollover number (see this post but adjust the MQD numbers to current levels). Many folks just do not have time for a mileage run. Others have time but are having a hard time finding one from their home town. If the later, there is outstanding help if you need it. But as I…

First things first. Like just about every Saturday this past weekend (if you did not check) some really strange Schedule Change Saturday changes have hit a number of our flights. You can check these old posts for help if you are new to this: Delta, you are “startin’ to damage my calm” with all these schedule / equipment changes & NO NOTICE AT ALL! ALERT! Delta schedule change Saturday has struck again! Please check all your flights! Rookie Wednesday: Delta Schedule change = MQM GOLD MINE! I had an international one that only had a regional jet impacted but I was smart enough NOT to click anything on Delta.dumb and called. Even the Delta Diamond rep had issues and had to get a supervisor on the line. Had I just clicked on stuff I expect very bad things would have happened to me. Please take the time to read the…

Folks we are as of today only days away from end of the days of Richard Anderson telling us on each flight he is CEO of Delta Air Lines and always has our back (cue reach for air sickness bag). Now we get a few years of Mr. Ed and President Glen “Ham Sandwich”. Gosh, and we have been starving for frequent flyer perks for years now (where is my Grey Poupon I ask you). But that is what is on the way for May and beyond, let’s review April and see if there was anything you missed: ➥ Alaska Air DEVALUATION – worse than Delta, United or American. All program TRUST is GONE! ➥ Fly Delta APP 3.8 fixes super irritating bug & ads multi-city search (but just as broken as on Delta.com) ➥ Will Delta be to blame if POINTS one day become taxed? Has there been an…

Are you an ATL flyer (notice I did not say Delta flyer)? If you are, you had better install in your phone the iflyATL APP available for Android as well as for the slightly less popular iPhone (a joke, but a good one). The app has just this month been updated and it is free and let me tell you it really works and works well. Not that it is perfect (far from it, in fact) but it has some features that you will soon find you cannot live without. First off, as you can see from the first screen shot it is not a tiny program. And then from the shot above it demands a whole bunch of permissions and you are giving up a bunch of access to all parts of your phone and info (then again most APPs do that right so..). Secondly, it is useful as…

I have been swamped all day today and just now getting time to sit down and get a post up and my timing is good as there has been some interesting news today. Take a look: Delta is having some kind of SkyMiles award sale or an IT bug. Either way, as Delta says, the price is the price so book now as you have 24 hours to cancel even an award ticket! GOOO! We all but “know” Delta is now going to order some Bombardier CS300s but is there a chance they will split the order with Airbus for more A321s? Maybe. The waiting is killing me. Delta partner China Eastern is expanding. Interesting. Delta should be upset at state owned airlines doing this. Wait, never mind, Delta owns part of “MU” so all is well. Phew. Now the ME3, they are still evil right? 🙁 You can win…

What a horrible way to wake up to see my twitter feed ablaze with flyers’ gut wrenching reactions to the beyond shameless devaluation of the Alaska Air loyalty program (see Gary’s post from A View From The Wing if you missed it). If you trust a word Alaska tells you from this day forward you are a fool. Loyalty programs are truly unique. They, traditionally, have driven consumer behavior to fly and buy and act in a way that is focused toward a travel goal or dream vacation. Often it takes YEARS to save up enough points to take that trip. Thus, the absolute worst thing an airline can do is devalue a program with ZERO notice – this is exactly what Alaska has done today! Here is why this is so unforgivable and so much worse that what other airlines have done (even worse than Delta). By simply dumping…

I am really getting sick of this Delta. This morning I warned you to reach out to ADAM and look to burn your AA points ASAP and your SkyMiles as well as, unlike AA, Delta makes changes and tells NO ONE! It has happened yet again. Just take a look. First off, trying to find LEVEL 1 Delta metal awards from the USA to Australia is sorta like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. Yeah, it is not gonna happen unless you get a Schedule Change and can switch to Delta jets. But there have been other choices that can work to save points. Yes, you can sometimes find space, if you really look, on partners like Korean Air, via ICN, for LEVEL 1 in business class each way for 160,000 points round trip. Not cheap, but not bad. Those days are over after 1NOV16. Just like the unannounced…

It seems the Delta tech folks have been playing on Delta.com this week. Most of us are not all that impressed with Delta IT that works let alone all the stuff Delta hides from us like the award charts that Delta still uses to this day but wants us not to know about it. But this new tab (see shot above) is a nice new quick navigation tool when you are not on the main Delta.com home page. Something similar to this was talked about in focus groups a while back and I am very pleased with it so far. A quick way to get to what is important to me when I travel and what to check on things like my upcoming trips with less clicks! #KeepClimbing. The next one, well, I don’t think there are 37 advisories pending on the Delta advisories home page. Nor do I think…

This has been a bizarre week with a strange Delta partner award booking bug (still not fixed?). My blog was also the first to break the news about the amazing Delta award fare sale to Europe. It turned out the unannounced day one was just for Medallions, but Delta did not tell them (us). Very strange. Delta has now opened it up to everyone and the T&C of the sale can be found on Delta.com HERE. But now I have another question. Notice the screenshot from Delta.com at the opening of this post. We all should know by now that Delta changed the rules that elites who are logged in to Delta.com get more LEVEL 1 award space. Now sure they did have that little issue of charging elites, their most loyal customers, MORE points than everyone else, but they say they fixed that little bug. But with this latest…
