JFK-SLC-MSY April Delta Trip Summary

Here is another great domestic mileage run that René did just last week.  Another almost same-day run, although it really is an overnight flight between New York City and New Orleans.  Leave either at 7:00am or 11:00am and connect through Salt Lake City and then you are off to New Orleans.  You can a short night in New Orleans or a long layover and get back to New York early the next evening, around 6:00pm.

6,834 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s) will be your reward for this quick trip on Delta Air Lines.  Now, I have only found one date that works; April 6th with a return on the 7th.

Let me caution anyone thinking they might get upgraded to First Class on these flights.  It is probably not going to happen flying into and out of Salt Lake City.

One of my greatest discomforts is when I fly a mileage run through a Delta hub which is heavy-Medallion territory and your chances of getting a complimentary upgrade is minimal.  That is why this run as a simple overnight is tolerable and a good value for a little more than $200.

Anyway here are the numbers:

The Details:

MQM’s:     6,834 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM’s)

Fare:         $223

Cost:   3.3 Cents Per Mile (CPM)

Please login to your Delta account before you click on the booking link below:

This link books through Kayak and then onto  – DIRECT BOOKING LINK

I like this trip since it is still before Delta’s change on Comfort+ booking policies.  That happens for travel on or after May 16th, 2016.  There are many Comfort+ seats still available for your selection on these four segments.

Thank you for visiting and following us, hopefully throughout 2016 here at Renes Points and Elite Mileage Runs  Best Wishes and Happy Travels. Enjoy your travels!  – John @laptoptravel

Miami to Anchorage $854 & 8654 MQMs at 10CPM 2015 Overnight Weekend Delta Elite Mileage Run

Monday, December 14, 2015  by John @laptoptravel I know this is not an ideal Mileage Run, but let me say that it is really getting ugly here the last few days to take a Mileage Run before 2015 ends.  I am hearing from a lot of you that you “just need something” to get you over the MQM hump for the year. On the plus side it is a WEEKEND RUN, and it is after … Continue reading

Dallas to Las Vegas 1st class $557 & 8210 MQMs at 6.8CPM One-Day Delta Elite Mileage Run

Wednesday, December 3, 2015 by John @laptoptravel Who doesn’t like a Business/First Class Elite Mileage Run? Look what I found for you today; It is a First Class Delta Air Lines itinerary from Dallas to Las Vegas. You have a single day when this fare is the lowest; Depart on Sunday, December 20th and return the next day, Monday. I really tried to make this work through Detroit both ways, but it just isn’t price-friendly … Continue reading

San Francisco to Italy $468 & 13120 MQMs at 3.5CPM Delta Elite Mileage Run 2016

Monday, November 30, 2015 by John @laptoptravel So, I am posting this I wanted to refine this amazing deal to make it even better for Mileage Runs.  GO it alone, or take a companion.  It seems that Delta is not blocking any holiday dates, as you can see by the calendar I placed above. My search was for 1-4 nights, but it looks like you can stay even longer at the same prices. So, to … Continue reading

Atlanta to Hong Kong $1367 & 18692 MQMs at 7.3CPM Delta Elite Mileage Run Thursday-Monday

Saturday, November 28, 2015 by John @laptoptravel     It’s a windfall weekend for Mileage Runs, perhaps leading up to Cyber Monday? Let me preface this post by saying I fully understand that a Mileage Run like this may be too much for many. But, I am appealing to two groups of flyers out there. First, some of you may find yourself in a panic of how to get a bunch of Delta MQM’s before … Continue reading

Las Vegas to San Juan $577 & 9144 MQMs 6CPM Weekday Delta Elite Mileage Run

Saturday, November 28, 2015 by John @laptoptravel Let me follow-up my last Mileage Run post (which was San Diego to San Juan) with another trip headed to the warm, sunny shores of San Juan, Puerto Rico. This may not have the same appeal for Californians as for those stuck in the harsher northern climates, but it is still MQM’s on the cheap. Perhaps many of you could reposition to Las Vegas to take advantage … Continue reading

San Diego to San Juan $555 & 9144 MQMs at 6.1CPM Delta Elite Mileage Run Year End 2015

Saturday, November 28, 2015  by John @laptoptravel We are currently seeing a theme in Mileage Runs…and I actually have two posts today for the beautiful, sunny shores of San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a Hawaii-raised flyer, I am naturally drawn to these beach destinations for Mileage Runs. In fact, in a few days I will actually be doing my own 15,000 MQM Mileage Run to Costa Rica for a crazy $230.40 and 15,000 SkyMiles for … Continue reading

I just gave away 15,000 Delta MQMs to a friend (and how you can do this too).

Last month I completed over $60,000 in spending on my Delta AMEX Business Reserve card (not including yearly fee). My statement also closed around the 1st of the month and today my 15,000 bonus SkyMiles posted to my account on and this is a signal that the MQMs are ready to be redeemed (even before you get the e-mail notice below). We all should know about the current AMAZING 10,000 MQM new card Delta … Continue reading

I just burned 20,000 Delta SkyMiles coach Pay with Miles (PWM) ticket to test earnings!

Not that long ago I was challenged to test if burning Ultimate Rewards (UR) points from Chase Sapphire, Freedom and other cards would earn all Delta points when flying. So, I spent just under 20k and flew around all day on Delta jets (mostly on CRJ200s I hate to say) and was vindicated with my stand that they would do just that. I have also each year flown US Bank FlexPerks points on Delta and … Continue reading

Delta Pay with Miles (PWM) in 1st class 2015 SkyMiles & MQM update – All is perfect!

I have some great news. First off, and maybe it is just me, but don’t you all think the strange and conflicting Delta wording for using Pay with Miles (PWM) from the Delta AMEX card is just a little bit like a Rube Goldberg machine? Plus, other than the MQMs, what they are displaying is flat out wrong, but more on that in a bit. Oh and it gets worse to begin with. Seriously Delta … Continue reading

15,000 Delta Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs) added to my SkyMiles account today – Thank you AMEX! How to claim them. – Rookie Wednesday post.

Welcome to a weekly feature on the Renés Points blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature. One of the absolute best features of the  Delta AMEX cards <-LINK  especially in this case my Delta Reserve card, is being … Continue reading

The slow Delta rollover MQM numbers are here – check your accounts – numbers are posting!

If you have not checked your Skymiles account for the past few days (I know, who does that) you may want to peek and see if your rollover MQMs, or Medallion Qualifying Miles aka rollover miles, have posted. In the past few years, it has been for just about everyone on one set date. This year things have been very different. For the past few days, bit by bit, elites have reported the points posting … Continue reading

2015 – How to earn your Delta MQD exempt waiver (to avoid MQD spend requirement for medallion status).

Ever since Delta implemented MQDs or Medallion Qualifying Dollars, that is minimum spending with Delta to keep your status, on top of MQMs or Medallion Qualifying Dollars, they have also allowed exemption via two methods. One is you don’t live the USA. Now if you would rather not move to say Europe (or risk having your account shut down for just saying you live outside the USA), then the other very popular choice each year … Continue reading

Top off your Delta MQMs with Hilton promo (but check your settings before you do)!

Once again Hilton has brought back a nice way, through December 20, 2014, to earn a few more MQMs to get you where you need to be. You can earn MAX 10k MQMs but that would mean a LOT of 2 day stay credits to get that many points. There are some “gotcha” T&C bits you must be aware of if you are going to go for these MQMs. They are: “To be eligible for … Continue reading
