Elevate Your Status

Like black Friday deals, the Delta “Elevate Your Status” offer is now live a month sooner than usual. The pattern has been, for years now, to offer to many elites the chance to buy-up one or more status levels for a bat crazy amount of cash donated to Delta and at costs as high as $5000 for some elites.

What is it this year?

As I have been talking warning you about for the past few weeks Delta is, as it did in 2013 as well as in 2012, again offering to sell you MQMs at prices that would make even a Vegas card shark blush! They even have the nerve to allow THIS spend to count toward your MQD number when all the other ancillary money you spend with Delta like bag fees etc. do not. Well played Delta! I mean the first time Delta did this they attempted to market this with the “value” of buying the MQMs rather than flying to earn them with this comparison chart. Last year they gave up on that silly idea as the price jumped to ridiculous levels. This year I, as a Delta Diamond Medallion, am offered 10,000 MQMs at an even MORE insane price of $2,095 (a modest 5% price spike over last year’s…

What you are seeing is a brilliant approach to rake in a ton of cash from the BUY MQMs from Delta. The airline has truly taken printing money from elite flyers to a totally new level by charging, not just a TON more than last year, but more for some and much less for other. If I were to want to buy 10,000 MQMs as a Diamond Medallion it could set me back $1,995.00 – CRAZY – JUST CRAZY! My wife, as a Gold Medallion, is offered the “bargain basement” price of only $1,495.00 for 10,000 MQMs. – Really? Now the ONLY good thing they have done is, apparently, BLOCK some from buying these vastly and ridiculously over priced MQMs when it would do nothing for as a Skymiles member with NO MQMs. Some will get the message that they are NOT allowed to buy MQMs at any price. You…

I have been on a bunch of mileage runs this year as for $137 to get 5000+ MQM’s is a great price to me. Last year, Delta let you BUY up to 10,000 MQM’s. This year, it is BACK but at a higher price than last year as you can see in the screen shot from Delta.com above. Now is this a good deal? I would say for very few. Who? 1) If you already HAVE a Delta Reserve AMEX personal card (learn more) earn 10,000 AND 2) If you already HAVE a Delta Business Reserve AMEX card (learn more) earn 10,000 (just pick the “click here” in the middle of the page) AND 3) You cannot do a mileage run to somewhere FUN to earn 10,000 MQM’s for $1000 THEN 4) Yes this can be a good deal for you. For me, I just got my personal Reserve AMEX…
